DK Cocktail Monitor tearing??
« on: March 23, 2006, 04:04:46 am »
Hi ,
Well i got sick of trying to find the problem with my PC monitor and turned my attention to my DK Cocktail. I had lying around an Orion chassis (as the Kaga denshi was stuffed) and replaced the chassis with this one. A straight swap just had to realign the RGB G sync to align with the new chassis. Great!
Everything works! I remember  when the old chassis was working there was discolour in the top left hand corner and replacing the chassis it is still there it even looks like wobbly graphics (see pic) I used a degaussing coil on the screen when it had the last chassis in it and it didn't fix the problem. There are speakers either side but these are the ones that came with it..Anyone know why it is doing it

For the discoloration, you need a degaussing coil.

For the tearing, try adjusting your horz hold just a tad.

Later,

move the speakers to see if the colour corrects itself, otherwise maybe the frame bolt has become magnetic, maybe that picture wobble is down to a leaky cap

Cool,
removed one speaker and colour is perfect! Still have the wobble on the left side. Will try the horizontal hold. Might also be the ground to the monitor. Going to check now. Thanks guys

Tried the horizontal hold and would only make it worse. Checked for continuity on the ground wire from the neck board to the wire around the monitor. OK. Checked continuity from ground on chassis to harness OK. The whole picture seems to shimmer too. Maybe a cap kit is the go.

another thing that can cause picture wobble is if the mains transformer is too close to the scan coils.

It seems to be slightly better now one speaker is removed (these are the original cab speakers) could it be the speakers are causing it? The 240v 110v stepdown is as far away as possible . Should I change this to a newer one it still has the original power supply too. Here are some pictures I don't even notice the slight tearing now. Will this cause damage if I leave it? Also sometimes the screen seems to shimmer?
I am pretty stoked with the way it has turned out considering it didn't work before and it didn't cost me anything
 ;D
Just swapped the video side of the board with another one ( I just happened to have lying around) and this fixed some graphic glitches I was getting the game runs beautifully!!!
Still don't understand way the speakers didn't effect it before (same monitor ) but now they do should I just replace them with shielded ones?
Thanks for your help mate

the trouble with table tops is everything is packed in tight, you could get shielded speakers but just moving them away from the tube is good enough, still probably needs some caps changed as a matter of course, don't think any damage will be incurred in regards to the tearing-from your photo's the screen looks great.Don't worry about changing the psu or transformer as i don't think it will improve things-one thing i would do though is unscrew the transformer and move further away from the monitor just to see if things improve but to be honest it all looks good now.
