Arkanoid rip-offs that are somewhat easier??
« on: March 23, 2006, 03:31:14 am »
I just tried Arkanoid last night, because the wife wanted to play it. I
haven't played since the good old days on C64 (with a joystick). I've never tried it with a spinner.

But man, this game is VERY hard!! I remember being good at it on the C64,
but it's impossible now!! ;D

I remember another game like it, called Break-out!? But I would be happy
with something a little easier. Even though Arkanoid is the classic I would
rather want on my cab.

Any advice?

do you know I sat here for a full 60 minutes, resisting the temptation to suggest PEEKABOO

That sort of self-restraint is something I think I can be proud of.

It's probably hard because you don't have a geared spinner.
NO MORE!!

They have several ricochet, ricochet extreme, ricochet resomething that are pretty good, and designed to use with keyboard or mouse.

Big Kahuna Reef is also pretty good and fun.  They have several 3d versions of the same thing, but I don't know the names of them.

It's probably hard because you don't have a geared spinner.

It's extremely hard no matter if you're using the original spinner or a homemade spinner, IMO.  That's part of what makes it so fun.  You can watch that ball just go back and forth missing the final block until you slip up and lose it.

For something slightly easier, try Off the Wall, Atari's Breakout/Arkanoid bastard child ;).

Cheers,

Dx-ball is really fun, but I don't know if it works with a spinner.
