mame classic game filter

Does anyone know if there is a filter or program out there that will filter my rom collection so that just the classic games remain (just the early 1979-1984 games that will run on my PIII in vertical mode).  I already got a filter that sorts out the horizontal from the vertical, but i am left with a lot of flying/shooter type games.  I have checked around but have not found anything.
