car-share lanes
« on: March 20, 2006, 09:32:20 am »
The goverment in Britain has just announced they are to introduce car-share lanes on motorways(freeways) and have said that similar schemes in the U.S have been hugely successful, firstly is the case? and secondly why not just have some inflatable dummies in your car,i mean how can they tell the difference on a camera?
Sounds like a load of rubbish to me.

Carpool lanes are nice.. some have slightly faster speed limits (5-10mph faster) and generally have less traffic..

Cuz all it takes is one pissed off motorist to call in to the local radio station's traffic department to report you and then you'll have hundreds of pissed off motorists on the look-out for you.  ;D

Seriously though, you probably get EXTRA fines for getting caught doing that.
NO MORE!!

The mannequin as a passenger has been done before.  I think there's EXTRA fines for it.  For the amount of space and whatnot that's used to make the extra lanes, I don't believe they're as useful in my area.  The better idea was the on-ramp lane for carpool folks.  Carpoolers use THOSE all the time, but oddly enough, I've been behind MORE than my share of idiots who can't figure out how to drive with a bunch of folks in their car.

They've recently open carpool lanes on some local highways.  And I LOVE THEM!!  My wife and I carpool into work together and its amazing how many people don't carpool.  As we'll be flying at 100kph (60mph) and the other lanes will be at a stand still for 15 kms.

Car-pool lanes are a good idea, bus lanes on the other hand are the eco-weenies way of sticking 2 fingers up at us car drivers.

Never did understand that...

Are you actually telling me that the bus thats belching thick, black, diesel smoke and spends hours a day idling is better, pollution wise, than the 30 small cars it replaces?  Lets face it, folks taking the bus drive civics, not H2s.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

In L.A. theres one freeway that doesn't just have a carpool lane, it has a seperate carpool freeway, 2 lanes in both directions completely seperate from the regular freeway, it has its own offramps and everything.  I think its the 110 freeway, but I'm not positive on that.

You sir, are correct.  Unfortunately, the carpool lanes aren't in the "Busy" section of the freeway though.  (Downtown)

Whatever happened with the pregnant woman who was ticketed in the car pool lane, and went to court claiming the fetus was a second person?

While we are handing out tickets to people illegally in the car pool lane , let's start handing them out for soccer moms and and people in the normal lanes with more than 1 person in their car.

Seriously, the point of a car pool lane to reduce traffic, pollution, etc.  So if you are a soccer mom with a bunch of under age kids in your car you are NOT sparing the world of extra vehicles.  So get out of the carpool lane.

And for those of you with several licensed drivers in your car who are in the regular lanes...  EXTRA fines for you.  You have your own lane - use it.

It's funny, but it was *years* before I understood why George Jetson kept getting into trouble because there are no carpool lanes anywhere near where I live.  ;D
