ive been waiting for this for years, anyone else planning to pick it up? or if you dont know what it is and have a 360 you better go buy it!,

why?, because it will be the greatest if not the only *great* game on the Xbox 360 this year or maybe possibly the next!  Trust me, and make your moneys worth and buy Oblivion!   ;)

I will probably get Oblivion a few months after it is released.  Everything that I have seen has been really good and I'm interested on how that radiant AI will turn out.  Hopefully they will release a little demo on xbox live.  Bethesda makes these games huge .  I enjoyed Morrowind even though I still haven't finished it yet because it's to dang big.

I picked up my copy of the collectors edition today.  I won't actually be able to play it untill some time next week though.  I need to up-grade my graphics card and I don't get my next paycheck untill Friday.  Then I'll have to wait a few more days for NewEgg to ship me the 7800GS card.

Been playing.. went to Oblivion already..

I will say tho, the NPC AI (friendly ones), sucks when they are on horseback trying to follow you.. i had them get stuck, so i had to commit a crime (kill my horse) to get it to force load me into the town so i could get them back...

I've been hearing a lot of hype on this game, and having never played any other elders scrolls I didn't know what to expect.  I've played about an hour or so, little ways after the sewers, and so far I'm a bit dissapointed.  I was hoping for a game that would really suck me in and make me want to play it until I beat it, but so far I'm just kinda bored with it.  I'll keep playing a few more hours because I spent the $50 for it, so I want to give it a decent chance, but I'm just not getting into it. Maybe I'll go back and play Vampire: Masquerade now that they've fixed most of the bugs.

Oh, and Gabe from penny-arcade seems to be on my side.

I really tried to like Morrowind, but I found it dreadfully boring.  Everyone seems so excited about this game and the reviews make it sound better than Morrowind.  Will I like Oblivion?  I really like RPGs, and my favorites are all on the PC, fallout 1+2, baldur's gate 1+2, planescape torment ect...

(It's not like I will have an opportunity to play it any time soon since I have an ancient computer)

I played a few more hours and still undecided on it.  It has so much potential, but it takes so long to do anything.  I spent an hour on a quest to find a missing painting and now find out that I don't know what else to do to complete the quest.  It took me the longest time just to figure out how to get people to trust me so theyd talk to me, and now I'm stuck finding clues (ive found the painting in the west tower and the art supplies in the suspects place, but I dunno what else to look for).  I'll probably just go kill some more things, too bad it takes 20 minutes to get to any nearby dungeons, maybe its better when you get a horse.

They should also add, or have the option for, mouse-over tool tips so you know what each button does before you click it.  Oh, one more thing, how do you drop something from your inventory onto the ground?  I picked up a sword and couldn't move because I became overloaded, luckily a troll I killed was just close enough to give stuff too.

According to the instruction manual you can either press the Left Shift Key + the Left Mouse button to drop an item, or you can just click on the item with the left mouse key and drag it to where you want to drop it.

I can

Thanks, I'll try the left shift and left mouse button.  I haven't been able to drag any items in my inventory to anywhere, so the other one isn't an option.

Also, the graphics in this game are amazing.  I just noticed the spires of a huge city extremely far off in the distance, very cool how they don't limit your view.

all you have to do is make room for the item, (where your going to drop it*)  and from your inventory click and hold the item, it should drop out and youll be able to place it anywhere, you can also hold an item, move, drop or whatever else with "z"

I've just acquired an Xbox recently... in the process of buying a few games for it now that most of the good ones are $20 or so....   I've bought Morrowind and haven't completely made up my mind about it yet...  I'm thinking if I like this one enough, I might splurge and buy the PC version of Oblivion, since, obviously, I don't have the Xbox 360 yet.....

thats not quite true... i dont know what you or everyone else on PC is running, but my SHRG isnt the most highend persay... its got currently a  AMD athlon(3500) vcore cpu, 1 gig of RAM and runs on a Geforce 7800 256mb PCI card. and using 2 hardrives MAX for ViRmem. (nothing is overclocked)

and i am sorta proud and dissapointed to say that there werent enough bars to increase all the way to make the quality beter and better (or enough to crash my system.)...

heh the only slowdown i have ever encountered (on full bars) was once in a field and in the background fields upon fields of grass supporting shadows, pretty, but hey... maybe ill go grab another gig of RAM and who knows?

Amd 64 3000
2gigs pc3200 Mushkin 2-2-2
EVGA 7800GTX

Machines fine.. no slowdown with default sliders either.. Try tinkering with the LoD and stuff in the ini file.. ;)

And yes, try playing this with a 5XXX Nvidia card.. not gonna happen and not alot of people are into high end equipment

PC Gamer just came out with a review for the game (they gave it a 90%) and they talk about system requirements.  Apparently the game relies much heavier on your graphics card then your cpu, so someone with an older computer my be fine if they just upgrade to a newer graphics card.

Also, heres my specs:
amd 64 3100
1 gig ram
radeon x800pro

I'll be upgrading my comp next week so I'm interested how much (if any) better it will look:
amd 4200 X2
2 gig ram
radeon x1600xt (not much of a graphics card upgrade, but I'm switching to pci-e and needed a decent pci-e budget card)

I've played about 7 hours of the game now and I'll probably keep playing until something else I want to play comes out.  I'll probably then just leave it on my hard drive and come back to it when I get bored with whatever else is out at the time.  Its a good game, but definately has its flaws.  If I were asked to review it, I'd give it a 8/10.  I am amazed at the scope of the game and how well they pulled it off, but too much of the game is boring to me and the UI sucks (I'm guessing the problem is they used the same UI for both the xbox360 and the PC)

*edit* just looked at the oblivion review again and pc gamer gave it a 95%, not a 90%

UI seems ok to me. thats more of a personal thing tho *shrug

And youll for sure notice a difference with 2 gigs of ram, id say its heavier on my ram than my gpu O_O

I honestly don't know if I'd use Morrowind as a gauge.

I suppose if you do like it, then you would probably like Oblivion, but I personally didn't like Morrowind at all, yet I LOVE Oblivion. I have put over 80 hours into it so far, and have yet to hit any sort of dry spell. The quests just keep coming, and the desire to actually do them is still strong.

Bethesda scored big with this title.

it doesnt seem as magical as morrowind to me though... no cliff racers, silt striders... etc almost every common  creature in oblivion is one that we would have here on earth, thats the one downfall ive been having to cope with, other than that everythings amazing...

I didn't get deep into Morrowind, because as mentioned, I didn't like it, but yeah...

The characters in Oblivion do have a very earthy kind of feel, though honestly...

Very few of them, outside the real animals, such as rats, lions, bears etc., would we actually find on Earth.

I haven't played since my last post here, but penny-arcade just mentioned a mod for it that greatly improves the UI, the BTMod http://btmod.beider.org/

I definately recommend it for anyone playing the game on the pc.  As penny-arcade put it "Its basic function is to bring the user interface more in line with what you might call a "PC Centric" experience - exposing more than twice as many items in lists, for example. It's one of those mods that is so pure in its purpose that it now seems like the correct vision for the game."

Just wanted to bump this thread and see if everyone who's got either PC or Xbox360 versions are still happy with their purchase....
I Haven't Lost My Mind, It's Backed Up On Disk Somewhere.
