H and V synch on a 25" Nanao MS8-26SU
« on: March 16, 2006, 02:03:04 pm »
I have this 25" Nanao MS8-26SU monitor I am attempting to use in a new MAME cabinet and planned to use it with an Act Labs lightgun with an ArcadeVGA.

I just saw this note on Andy's site -

==============================

The Act-Labs USB gun works but there are some factors to bear in mind. The
gun will only work if the H and V sync are not connected together. The H and
V signals must both be connected to the monitor.

==============================

The connector I have uses 5 of the 6 pins in the connector as follows:

R
G
B
GND
Synch (H and V)

Looking on the chassis, see attached, I see 6 pins but it is unclear if the 6th can be used in such a way that would "split" the synchs

R
G
B
GND
H or V synch
V or H synch

I need to find out if the synch can or is split between these pins so the act labs gun will work.

Finding a Nanao schematic or manual is near impossible and I am hoping someone here has the answer. Thanks in advance for any assitance you can provide!

Well this might not help a lot.....

I have a Nanao MS9-29SU...Manufactured in 96....Just taken the back off the cab and that connector on mine is R-G-B-GND-H-V...I only have 5 wires connected as well.

I tried to get a photo but it's too dark and I thought waving my camera around in the back was not a good idea...seeing as the lens cap snagged on a few cables....

The schematics I have are not for this monitor

 :(

I guess I may need to look on the underside of the chassis PCB.

My take on this issue is you only have one sinc input so you can't attach two seperate sincs, but why does that light gun require both sincs connected-i mean my arcade has many gun games which only have one sinc connected,is there something different about the act labs gun that it uses both sincs as its trace

Not sure, it may be a requirement of the ArcadeVGA, not the gun.  Anyway, here is the answer from Jomac in Au. I am told he is the go-to-guy for Nanao monitors and he came through here:

"Hi James ,

The Comp H-Sync input on the chassis means it will accept a signal from a
game that is producing a composite negative sync , if however you are not
supplying this pin with a composite sync you need to also connect the V-sync
pin .
Basically Composite is a combination of the V and H , but as you are not
going to be supplying the chassis with a combination you can use the H and V
pins separately as you need without any modification to the chassis.
Just remember the both V and H and Negative Sync

1:Red
2:Green
3:Blue
4:Gnd
5 H Sync
6 V Sync

Let me know if this works ok for you James ,

Regards,
Joe McNicol ( Jomac )"
