My Mame machine is complete
« on: March 14, 2006, 06:13:45 pm »
Just a couple of pics of my (finally completed) machine. It was my first (not counting the Arcade Legends my wife bought me for my B-day) project. I started with a UAII kit (ya I know I should have cut my own, but Im not much of a woodworker and have limited tools) which for a kit is very impressive. The only thing I disliked about the kit itself was the cam-locs, they were not very good quality. It has a 29" Mitshubishi presentation monitor that is capable of 15hz resolutions to up to 1600 x 1200. Pentium 3.2 1 gb ram Ati 9700 pro and 160 gb hard drive and Linksys wireless network. the Artwork was designed by Snaakestick (Huge thanks Snaake) and Printed by Mamemarquees (awesome job Scott). Andy from ultimark deserves a thankyou as well for stepping right up when I had a couple of broken switches on my Mag stiks. He rushed me out 3 new ones right away (thanks Andy). ANd thanks to those of you who answered my silly newbie questions :)

I forgot to mention the sound setup in the cab.
Soundblaster Live, Klipsch promedia sub and 2 5/14 Eclipse car stereo speakers. It rocks pretty well.

Looks good - good job! What frontend?

Whats your thoughts on the magstiks? I got the exact same ones. I like switching between 4 and 8 way. But - the short throw has turned me off. I think I'm going to drop in some supers in 4 way mode and get started on a dedicated 8 way cabinet. Just wanting to know your thoughts on the stiks!

thanks,  I am using Game EX. Itreally suits my needs.

I like the Mag Stiks because of the EZ switch mechanism, I do wish they were a little quieter though, but they are very nice sticks.

I don't mind the short through, but I have had problems with mine sticking in one direction and not returning to center correctly.  Have you had these problems?

I did have this problem with one stick, but it turned out to be because one of the microswitches was damaged during shipping. Andy sent me some new ones and my sticks work great now.

Not your fault man we used the same dude.... Good looking Cabinet!

I came up with the concept for my side art, I approved it .. I just commishened Snaake to do the work since I am not familiar with the programs.  I approved the Final design after Laying out MY IDEAS and snaake had to revise it multiple times until I approved, i picked the charaters, the concept the layout the design, he just layed it out correctly for scott to print it....

I am quite dissapointed snaake just changed one charater and the background and used the same layout and charaters that I came up with, made his job super easy and basicly he charged you what he charged me but got paid for the work he already did, if he charged you $50+ bux for that side art I would ask for atleast a refund for 1/2 the cash.. since you used the same side art on both sides. the only work he did really was the kick plate.. I would say if you paid $25-35 for that it was worth it.. but the side art I would make sure you pay no more than $15.00 since all he had to do was remove the MAZE layer and insert the Grid and Blue background layer, and swap in ONE charater - everything else is exactly the same..  That whole job should be worth total $50.00 MAX for kickplate and side art... if you paid less than $50.00 you got a good deal.. if you paid more I would demand a partial refund.

I made my side art files avalable on my site for others to use, I just would think that if someone else uses it I would get a SHOUT OUT OR A THANKS FOR A GREAT CONCEPT...

Snaake shoudn't be pedaling work that was usique to a project.. IF he scattered the charaters and the locations + sizes of them it would be non plageristic...

Don't get me wrong here man.. I have no issues at all, I think the project is great.. I just am a bit ticked Snaake would push off something he did for someone else.. It's like Apple using that  “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service for their Intel /MAc commercial.. That director really screwed over the people he originally made that video for by just grabbing already shot footage and editing it for apples purpose... I'll bet ya apple paid full out for that and got footage they though was fresh... Snaake did the same thing here.

Anyways good luck witht he cab..

Well I have to say I do feel as if Snaake cheated and Used the same art on both of our cabs. I paid him to design my artwork, not just use yours. Oh well live and learn.

Remember the good old days when you could trust people with names like Snaake?  ;D

I totally agree crackn, but I think the issue is paying for copied work.  Snaaake has done two overlays for me and I was very happy.  I feel that for original work, not cut and pasting of vector work, the cost should be much higher.  In this situation, when it is just implementing layers of vector work, the price should be much cheaper.  I have taught myself to use photoshop to my needs and I'm discovering that it's really not that dificult for what we are trying to accomplish.  If you have a library already prepared, it takes minutes to do cut and paste.  It has taken me many many hours, but well worth it in my opinion.  So, in the end, I believe Snaaake is a young guy, and that may cause some of the lack of total honesty.  I'm not saying he lied or is a bad person to deal with.  That is very important to state!!  I think he just needs to be straight out honest with people and see if they want to bite on the price and the time frame.  Nine times out of ten, I bet they will.  Instead of being in a grey area, it would be easy with his talent to get a reputation like Scott at mamemarquess as a go to guy in this area of the arcades.
