EmuSaver 2.0 is Ready

Ok guys, I've added several of the options that you've all suggested including a "mute when in attract mode only" option and a statistics page, detailing the last run of the screensaver.

Same bat time, same bat homepage....

Enjoy!

I've just added support for this in MAMEWAH (the wrapper not the emusaver.scr)...

BTW I noticed it shows 'Loading Game Please Wait' shows after quitting game, not that it matters.

It all works very nicely, and I got the v3 command line wrapper to work perfectly now too (not sure why I couldn't do it before).

Cheers Howard! (shame you can't get rid of that taskbar flash-up ;) )

Glad you like it :)
btw adding support for a windows screensaver is very easy in case you were wondering.....

just launch it like you would a normal exe but tack on a "/s" command line argument to run the screensaver and a "/c" argument to load the settings page.... it's one of those little known facts about windoze.

I'm not sure if this will help but from what you wrote the I assume the taskbar is auto-hidden and it kinda pops up for a sec? I use a handy little gadget that runs in the taskbar and has alot of features. Using it, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to enable or disable the taskbar. On my system it can be hidden but if I want the start menu I just press the windows key and the menu appears while the taskbar is invisible. Does alot of other neat stuff too. It also uses little memory so it won't bog down your system.

I have no clue, but if not go bug dave... it will literally take him about 15 min to add support assuming he has some sort of modular way of launching emulators (which he does.)

I would like to see every windows fornt-end have generic scr support... then you can run windows screensavers too and it's much easier for the community to contribute....

I have a MAME question...

When using emusaver, It loads a game, but has the OK screen, then the PRESS ANY KEY screen.

Anyone have a how-to or a build of mame with these options removed already?

It would be nice if the games just started....

THANKS!!

Look in the mame.ini file of the latest mame builds.  I think since version .63 you will find the answer.

Next issue it this: Running this on WinXP, when I have the No Sound option in attract mode, it always has a damn pop-up warning about the sound!! Now this is not good, i want it to go right into the game!

Anyeone tackle this problem?

this is one of those "idiot" messages that xp likes to display....

Mine doesn't do it so i know it can be turned off... there should be a "don't ask this again" check box on the prompt... you should check it :)  If not then go into the audio options.

Are Windows screen savers just executables?  And if so (which I assume they are), can they be launched with CreateProcess()?  Or is there some specific API to use that invokes a screen saver?  I'd RTFM, but it's much easier to ask someone who knows. :)

yup, just exe's renamed to scr.....

now there are special apis you have to call inside the scr to enable password support and make it appear in the little box in the preview window of the control panel, but those are optional....
there are 4 command line arguments you check for inside the scr....

/s = run the screensaver...
/p = preview mode
/c = open the screensaver's settings....
and the other one is unused in most cases.....

so to launch a screensaver you simply treat it as a exe and tack on a /s command line argument when you launch it

I am getting this too.  So that leads me to ask what are our simularities.  I have a SB Live value (with digital out) using driver from 3/18/2002 (no version listed??).  I didn;t see anything in audio options or the creative surround mixer that would get rid of the msgbox.  That;s why I assume it was in emusaver.

I am using onbaord sound...I too did not find any options to "turn it off."

Nor does the promt allow you to check a "Don't show this message again."

It's annoying. What's weird it that i have found it doesn't always do it. Only like 70% of the time. So i think there must be something that can change with EmuSaver to fix this.
