MK II and Wrestlemania the arcade
« on: March 11, 2006, 02:59:07 pm »
Hello, I own a MKII dedicated cabinet.  Also I own MKI and Wrestlemania jamma boards.  I am by no means good with electronics.  I went ahead and unpluged the MKII jamma and plugged in Wrestlemania- both games use 5 button.  However when i play wrestlemania only the middle and top two buttons work (3 of 5).  I have the same problem when I plug in MKI.  how can i get it so that all 5 buttons work for each game (all 5 work for mk II only)

Do you have the kick harness plugged in?

Regular games use 3 buttons per person.... a game like MK needs an addition wiring harness plugged in as well.

You'll likely have to build special adaptors if you want to swap these boards.  You may be able to get away with plugging the kick harness from MK2 into MK, but likely Wrestlemania will have a different pinout.

MK2 and MK have different pin outs. Same with wrestlemania. You can swap the boards out but you will have to hard wire the controls to the boards or make a plug and play setup. either way you will need to do some wiring.

ok, the top pic is MK II with all the wiring done.

The bottom is Wrestlemania jamma board.

What wiring need to be done?  can you be more detailed about what needs to go where?

what i would do is wire the extra button wires from the button panel to a male plug of some type, then make a loom for each board from the extra button connector on that board to a female plug of the same then you can swap boards as much as you like.easy peasy

O.K in english, your problem is that you have three seperate game boards with different wiring for the extra buttons,so what you need to do is make a way for these boards to connect to your cabinet with minimum fuss,to achieve this you need  standard wiring, all your boards are jamma so no need to change that side of things, only the extra button wiring needs to be standardised.you have six buttons on your control panel and i guess three will always work so the other three go to an extra connector on each of your game boards.on each of your game boards you will have a connector plug for these extra buttons and what you need to do is make a plug that fits on to each board that then goes to another plug which you can interchange on the extra button wires from your control panel ,its like having another jamma connector for your extra buttons(but any sort of plug and socket system will do).
loom-thats your wires
male and female plugs-one has pins the other has holes.

What Grantspain said..

This is the extra connector that plugs to the MKII board to add the bottom two buttons for each player

It is part of the cabinet wiring and plugs into this part of the MKII board

You need to either plug this into the other boards (only if the wiring matches)
or do what grantspain says and run wires from the bottom two buttons on each player's control (the ones not working) to a connector that will match the Wrestlemania board.

Thanks man!  The pics helped me out 100%.  Wrestlefest now works!  All 5 buttons work!  Thanks again.
I tried MK I though, and the hookup is different- its like the pluf is smaller.  Any advise?

MK1 had a number of revisions, including some that ran on a different style of board. The later versions of MK ran on the "T-Unit" boardset (NBA Jam and MK2 run on it IIRC). I believe the T-Unit version of the MK1 boardset is plug in play with MK2. Version 5.0 is one that runs on the T-Unit hardware, at least according to MAME.

I would bet that if you buy the T-Unit version of the MK1 board, it'll plug right in and work fine. I would do that rather than have to mess with the wiring. Besides, I'm all about keeping thing original on cabs when possible.  ;)

Ive got a new question.  I own a wrestlefest cabinet: its a 4 player machine with 2 buttons- same as simpson, ninja turtles, etc.  Here is my problem: i also own ninja turtles and captain america and am not able to play with 4 players simulatenously.  When i swich jamma boards on PLAYER 1 work on ninja turtles and cap america.  However- with wrestlefest, all 4 players work.

Can you give me some insight here.  I can provide pics of boards and connections if they would help in talking me though this.  THanks

***pics 1 & 2 are of Captain America

***pics 3 & 4 are of Ninja Turtles

***rest of pics are in next post

Do you have the dip switches set up right?

Is it set in 2p mode instead of 4p mode?

You could have posted a reply with these pictures in the other thread ... limit is by post, not thread.

Any hoo ...

I have been avoiding jumping into this but it has become painful to watch and I need some NoobKarma(tm).

The first thing to remember is that JAMMA only handles two players. So, the JAMMA harness thatyou are swapping only has connections for two players (this will be why switching the harness does not give you four players on other boards).

The controls for players 3&4 are connected to the Wrestlefest PCB using two molex connectors (they connect at C2 and C3 right beside the JAMMA edge connector). These connectors are sometimes referred to as a kick harness.

Wrestlefest manual can be found here:

http://happycampers.to/arcade/manuals/

Information about the connections is on pages 9 and 10.

You need to make the same connections when you swap boards, BUT the wiring pinouts are likely different beween boards so you will need an adaptor.

Having just read your other threads, it doesn't sound like you want to build anything, so your only real choice is to stick to true JAMMA (2 players, 3buttons each) games if you want to swap boards without dealing with wiring and adapters.

If you do want to make adapters, then your next step is to find the pinouts for the extra connections on the "other" board you want to swap out. Compare it to the pictures on page 10 of the Wrestlefest manual. From there, you need to obtain the appropriate molex adapters and run wire from point to point (e.g. Player 3  Right goes from Pin 1 on the Wrestlefest pinout to Pin 4 on TMNT:Turtles in Time).

If this sounds confusing, grab the manuals and look at them side-by-side.

Good luck!

Cheers.

By George, I think he's got it ! (e.g. Yes)

Unless, of course, you have two boards that use the same kick harness pinout.

Cheers.

I actually thought you already had ... just like Fredster and SGG did back in December (this really is the same question and poster, isn't it?).

wow, tough :(

Sorry that it comes off that way, but  in reviewing the posts last night, I saw four seperate threads (prior to the recombination of threads) all asking basically the same questions, with appropriate answers in all four threads.

It is one thing to not understand or to be intimidated by the wiring aspects (and don't be ... it is nowhere near as hard as you think it is) and another thing to seemingly ignore previous answers and repeat the question.

Fredster's answers back in December were the best in this series of threads and SuperGunGuru told you back then that you would need to make modifications to swap boards and play four players, so this shouldn't have been a surprise.

If you want help, no problem ... but listen to the answers ...

There goes my NoobKarma(tm) ... oh well ...

Cheers.
