The problem is when the monitor is turned on it emits a noise from eighter the neck board or the base of the tube. I inspected the neck board pretty well, and I didn't see any obvious sparks or cold joints. The noise is hard to describe, but if you were to take the high pitched whine a CRT normally makes and slow it way down, that would be a good description. Almost like baseball cards being attached to bike spokes. Also on the center of the screen, there is an inch thick horizontal line which is best described as a changing rainbow. Horizontal width is fine. Also the base of the tube does not glow at all. My terminology is very rusty, but I think its called the cathode heater. The problem does not get better if the CRT is left on to warm up.
Going off the K7000 series cap map on Bob Robert's site, I have identified caps 56,57,23,18 as bad. That's going off memory, but 56 is for sure. I am going to order a cap kit from bob on Monday.
My main question is this:
Is there anything else on this monitor that could possibly cause this problem. Most of the bad caps seem to be in the power circuit, which I am hoping is why the heater is not glowing.
This is a friend's monitor, so it will take me time to get info for questions that are very specific.
thanks for any replies.
EDIT: I can't remember exactly, but on the cap map the "lin coil" seems to be warping. I'm not sure about this, but I felt I should add it.
