I had problems finding a version that I was looking for. Didn't have a link in any of the download sections on mame.net.

Turns out you can download by using the direct url.
something like this:
www.mame.net/downloads/yourversion

I don't remember exactly what the format was - and the site is blocked from work, but it was something along those lines.
