PARTIAL SUCCESS: (Re Azureus help please)
« on: March 04, 2006, 09:58:06 am »
I am using Azuerus BitTorrent but I am having trouble maintaining my Upload setting.  I have set my upload speed to be 40Kb/s and my download speed tp 60Kb/s but after about 15minutes of letting Azureus execute, the settings under the Azureus configuration menu options resets itself to be around 13KB/s Upload and 30 KB/s download.   Why does this happen?  I would like to have a higher upload allowance so my share ratio is at a good

Also, based on a recommend from the Azureus webpages, I changed the default post which Azureus uses upon installation to port #56789.

I also, went into my Dlink DI-604 router and believe I am allowing traffic into my router and firewall settings for TCP and UDP port 56789.

Thing is.... when I perform a "Shields Up" test (by going to the site below) to see if my port was open correctly, then I get a repsonse as "Stealth" ... instead of "OPEN" which I was hoping for.

https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=56789

Now, I am uploading my torrent information so I am sharing, it is just not as  fast I am am hoping.   Currently I am sharing at a 11kB/s rate......

Any help to try and figure out what is going on or how to get better upload speed would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about azuerus (on uTorrent myself) but your upload speed is based on demand and load balancing of the connected users on that torrent.  Can you not set the upload speed to 0 (unlimited) and leave it like that?  I've never come across a problem of the program altering the settings unless theres some option ticked somwhere - automatically detect my connection - or something similar.  Strange it should be changing to to suit 300down/128up.

What connection do you have?

I have a DSL connection.

I am trying uTorrent as well.  I guess as long as I am currently uploading stuff then my port's are forwarded correctly through my router .... correct?

In uTorrent I went into "Options/Speed Test" and performed a test as to whether my port was forwarded correctly for UTorrent and it said "OK", so I guess that is working but I am only seeing upload speeds of 1.1Kb/s and 2.3 Kb/s .....

I set all upload connections to be "0" (ie: maximum speed) now in uTorrent and Azureus.   I will see if that makes any difference.    I am definitely uploading stuff, but I guess I assumed I would see something like 40Kb/s uploads rather than seeing only 1.1Kb/s or 2.3Kb/s upload speeds ....... oh well.

When I check whether the Azureus port is forwarded correctly using "Shield's Up" .... it indicates that the port is in "Stealth" mode still which indicates I can grab files but people will have trouble uploading from me.

I read that I should be seeing "green smily faces" in Azureus next to each download, but I only see "yellow" and "red" ones.   I ran in test in Azureus and it told me I had a "NAT error" ......
Just wondered how to get Azureus

Ok, partial success  ......

I noticed an invalid IP address in my route settings.   When I fixed this, then Azureus suddenly had green smiley faces and the NAT error went away.  Also, when I tested the port, it finally said it was OPEN.

However .... I still have my low uploading and download speed issues.  After about an hour after the green smiley faces showed up, I noticed that my upload speed was about 3.2kB/s and my download speed was around 6.2kB/s.    Since I previously set my upload and download max speeds to be "0" (ie: unlimited), I was surprised to find that these option settings were once again reset back to 7kB/s for uploads and 15kB/s for downloads.

What in the world is going on?   How do options which I set and click SAVE on simply change by themselves ....?

Do you happen to know the type of dsl connection you have (here I'm on 2MB/256kb).  Is it a popular torrent you are on?  If there are lots of seeds then you should see a high download rate.  If you are sharing something which a lot of other people have, then it's not in demand.  Get a few different torrents running at the same time and see what happens (like the latest capture of simpsons or something like that).

I am getting torretns from "[romsite name redacted]" and I am probably sharing files which might not be in top demand.   These are good points.

I believe my DSL connection is 1.2MegeBit download speeds.....

Some ISPs throttle Bittorent bandwidth. I don't know which ones off the top of my head. Also, I believe the Bittorent client looks at your upload speed, and since you most likely have a lower speed, due to it being DSL, other clients will ignore you and request data from a higher speed peer.

Just leave your upload going for a while after you have fully downloaded the files. Those guys are serious ratio Nazis, though - whatever you do, don't finish the torrent until you not only have a good ratio, but the actual amount of data transferred is fairly 1:1

Forward the proper ports...

I had problems with slow ul/dl on bit torrent and I had to open more ports. Not sure which all numbers need opened. I put my machine on the DMZ of my firewall and everything ran good. I put it behind the firewall and tried to open ports and it wasn't as good. I haven't done the research necessary as I haven't used bit torrent in a while.
