WTF is up with my arm?
« on: March 02, 2006, 10:18:50 pm »
When I woke up this morning, my left arm was all pins-and-needles, like I had been sleeping on it or something.  I figured it would pass.

It hasn't.  I've had this feeling all day.  My fine motor skill is shot to hell.  Heck, I've had to retype a good portion of this post because I can't type for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- with my left hand.

This morning I went to pick up a box of cereal and thought I was going to drop it it was so heavy.  Of course, it's *not* heavy, but I just couldn't pick it up.

Sucked at work, I had to have Mumbles do all the heavy lifting.  I don't mind grunt work, but I just can't get my left to do what I need it to.

It's gotten a *little* bit better over the course of the day.  But just a little while ago I almost dropped my daughter when my hand just gave out.

Carpal Tunnel?

    *  Carpal tunnel syndrome can affect one or both hands.

    * The first warning signs are pain, tingling and numbness in the fingers. Usually only one side of the third finger, also known as the ring finger, is affected, and the little finger is not affected at all.

    * If you have carpal tunnel syndrome you could also get the feeling that the fingers are

If it continues to be the same tommorrow, you probably should go see a doctor.

Here's my advice:

Don't get medical advice on an arcade board :)

Go see a doctor. Mobility and functionality isn't something to mess around with, and if there's an injury it can get worse if not treated.

I once woke up in the middle of the night after something hit me in the face.

Turned out it was my arm flailing around cuz I had lost all feeling in it from sleeping on it wrong. Heh. That was funny.

(feeling came back after a short while and I went back to sleep).

OK, im done, this thread may continue.

Last week someone was telling me about "the stranger" method of self gratification.

You sit on your hand for a few minutes so you lose feeling in it, that way you can't feel yourself touching yourself.

I haven't tried it, but if your arm is constantly numb, you can write a review about this technique.

Two things:

1) I wanted to wait and see if it got worse.  It didn't, it's much better.

2) I have *no* health insurance.  And I can't even make ends meet right now.  I need more bills like I need a hole in the chest.

I think maybe you've been sleeping on it awkwardly.  I know my wrist is screwed up occasionally because when I sleep on my side, I place my hand's palm against the bed right up against my body, leaving it in that position for quite awhile.  The next day I can't flex it the other way.  But that's my own personal experience.

This is why we should have universal health insurance.  Peale won't get this checked out.  So the tumor won't get removed....it'll fester until he's forced into the ER.  Society will pick up the bill at that point, when it's approximately 50 - 100 times more expensive, and then we'll foot the bill for the rest of Peal's life when he ends up on disability after his arm is amputated.

By the time he got that looked at in Canada, his arm would need to be amputated anyway.  Free health care with a 10 month wait isn't any better than not going.

Pointing to Canada's system, though, is like saying that buying a car is a bad idea because they're not reliable, and than pointing to Hyundai as proof.  A broken example of universal healthcare doesn't end the debate, any more than Hamas ruling Palestine proves that democracy is a bad idea.  (And still, Canada's system is better than America's, where 40 million people, more than the total, combined populations of 26 states, are completely uninsured).

---steaming pile of meadow muffin---....we're going to get a thread about Peale's gimp arm sent to the PnR forum.   ;D

We can't do anything better than Canada can.  We can't do traffic control, why would we expect national health care?

Common....you gotta cut Cuba a little slack on their economic problems.  I'm not one to advocate communism, but they're 90 miles off the U.S. coast yet cannot do business with us.  Upon my return to the U.S. I will be put in jail if I visit Cuba.  I cannot sell things to them or buy things from them as an American.  Tourism was/is a major part of their economy.....so were selling goods in the U.S.  Communism alone cannot be faulted for their economic woes.

If he's gonna hold up their medical care as something to aspire to, it's certainly valid to point out how their economic status may cause someone to laugh at the concept that it's worth emulating.

If they can't afford the items common in health care here in the U.S. then how can it be stated with any confidence that their system will work when the costs associated with the quality of care are factored in?

At least your Japan theory can be more closely compared and contemplated.  Cuba?  For cryin' out loud, my state's population is half the size of Cuba.  It's why folks can see definite problems with adopting a Canadian style of health care.  If they have those problems with a tenth of the U.S. population, we can clearly see there's a better than average chance the same problems will occur in the U.S. only on a grander scale - meaning EVEN BIGGER problems.

Seriously, why should Cuba's economic status NOT be considered when speaking of health care?  Would YOU go to Cuba for health care?

I think his point is that Cuba's economic status is artificially imposed by US sanctions and limitations, and hence is not a valid model of comparison for us.

Either way, Cuba is not a useful comparison.  The cause of their economic problems is not part of a productive discussion on health care.
