Arcade Anywhere
« on: February 25, 2006, 11:49:06 pm »
This is building off my "PortaCade" idea that can be seen in BST. Going to Home Depot tomorrow to get supples for the case. I'm probably gonna use oak hardwood and stain it as opposed to MDF and lacquering it. Plans are to integrate Computer, Control Panel, and speakers in one case. Going to use OmniSticks from GGG, 6 buttons per player, 1 & 2 player buttons, and 3 admin buttons. For this one, I'm going to use a standard Keywiz, but if I start selling there, I'll use the Eco. Going to integrate the speakers into the hinged CP. Not going to use T-Molding. Going to round the edges of the CP with a router. Will have both TV and VGA outs for easy hookup. I have a computer I'm gonna use. Socket 370 mATX w/ 333 celery and 64MB RAM. 4 Gig HDD and CD-ROM Drive. Will integrate a surge strip, so only one wire is seen coming out. Yes, my description is a bit jumbled, but I have (false) hope to have it done by tomorrow night :)

After seeing the prices of hardwood in Home Depot, I will go with MDF. This will be heavy, but at least not as bad as a full cabinet. I got all the router bits I will need super cheap. Going to go practive with is, as I have never used it before

I plan on making a JAMMA tester soon.  To keep it light, I'll probably be using 5/8" plywood instead of MDF.  This may not be an option for you though since you won't be using t-molding.  It would probably take too much time to fill and sand a routered edge.

I just finished sanding the bullnose off of the MDF. I would have gotten a full 4x8 sheet, but that would have required truck rental. We got it in 1x4 ft pieces. Perfect width. Problem was, they were rounded along one side. Belt sander took care of that. I love power tools.

Now off to the ER. I need some skin grafts.

More friggin delays. I got at Home depot what I thought was MDF. It wasn't. It resembled MDF, but it holds together like the Enterprise at Warp 20. Need to redo, sue Home depot.
