Opinions Wanted: New CP Layout
« on: February 25, 2006, 10:24:43 pm »
This is my first attempt at a CPO.  I appreciate any feedback (goor or bad).

I put button images for the joysticks too (haven't gotten around to fixing it since they won't be printed anyway)

Thanks!

This is my first attempt at a CPO.

Very well done for your first attempt.  I love the artwork you chose to put on the CPO.  Is your trackball going to have a mounting plate?  If you are I would suggest moving the red buttons with joystick more to the left and the blue buttons with joystick more to the right.  And the white buttons above the Mario and Luigi might need to move.  What are you planning to use the two white buttons for?

Thanks for the feedback!

No mounting plate.. I have a 2 7/8" fornster bit that I'm going to use to mount the trackball flush.

The white buttons will be used as mouse buttons.  I'm still not 100% on the 2 mouse buttons and the 4 admin buttons at the top but they are there for now.  I may change the admin functions over to shifted keys and remote the mouse buttons to make it a little more simple.

I suggest putting the administrative buttons on the control panel sides, that way someone won't accidentally hit one during gameplay.  Also, the two white buttons I would remove and put them somewhere above the trackball.  And now that I look at your control panel more I would move the Player 1, Player 2, Player 3 and Player 4 buttons down maybe an inch or two.

No, but I do plan on playing console games too.. I have removed button #7 for players 3&4 since as far as I know no neo geo games are 4 player (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Here is my first attempt at the bezel and marquee.  Help me make them better! :)

Wow, that bezel looks SLEEK! Great job. One thing I would change about the CPO is change the backround of it to something that better matches the other 2 pieces of artwork that you've made. Other than that, it should be one slick cab.

I really like the Marquee and the Bezel alot but it looks like you have the talent to design a nicer cpo.
I don't mean to be cruel but i think the quality of design is much more appealing on the marquee and bezel.

maybe something with a different background.... again its just my opinion. :)

great stuff tho.  8)

Thanks for the continuing feedback.. I agree 100%!  I like the marquee and bezel but the CP is lacking (in many ways).. I'm still not happy with this (not even sure I'll keep the changes) but it's a change..  Let me know what you think!

EDIT: Oops, I realized I took the lens flare out which I'm pretty sure I will put back in..

I'm assuming red is P1, blue is P2, yellow is P3 and green is P4.

Your start buttons are arranged P1-P2-P3-P4. I would move the start buttons so that it would be P3-P1-P2-P4. This way Player 3 wouldn't have to reach across the control panel to press start.

I prefer having Bart as Player 1 too. But the Simpsons has Marge as P1, Homer as P2, Bart as P3 and Lisa as P4. So don't forget to remap the buttons in that game so the characters match up to the buttons.

Thanks!  I completely forgot about the mappings in the Simpsons (I made sure that TMNT were right).  I like having the P1-P2-P3-P4 buttons in order.. I was planning on doing a remapping so in 2 player game p1 would use p2 start and p2 would use p3 start (having them in order appeases my sense of order).. Here are some updated pics.

Thanks!  These are by no means final.  I just haven't wanted to put in the work to clean up the images completely until I'm sure I'm happy with them.  The larger characters can be cleaned up quite a bit.  I hadn't thought about the TMNT but it makes sense since they are raster.

I have some updates I'll post tonight (including very preliminary side-art).
