Daphne performance...tips?
« on: February 23, 2006, 03:53:17 am »

Hi all.

I just put Daphne on my cabinet, which is P3 800MHz, 256 MB ram, onboard GFX and XP.

Now, I only want Super Don Quixote to be on it, but I get these black screens and freezes here and there, after performing a move. The game is still playable, but I want to get rid of them.

So, is the sinner the older HDD, or could I be so lucky that extra RAM would solve the problem? How exatcly would extra RAM work? would it load more of the video so it wouldn't have to access the HDD as often, or?

Thanks!!

Nicholas, asking and asking

That spec is very barely good enough to run Win XP on its own.
Sounds like combined with your onboard graphics your system is using all its ram and having to use Virtual memory (your hard drive) for breathing space. If you can still find compatible ram stick another 256 or 512 in there. Finish by turning off any unwanted windows effects and services.
I didn't touch it....honest!

"Finish by turning off any unwanted windows effects and services"

Already did that.

The plan was to only have MAME games in it, but then I found Daphne ::)

Thanks!! So extra RAM might save me...that would be coool.
