RADICADE! - CPO FINALLY Printed!!! w/PIXX
« on: February 20, 2006, 12:30:08 am »
 ;D

Hey guys!

I finally got my CPO printed! It looks awesome.

The colors on the CPO in the pics are really washed out  because I chose to install the "TEST" one first to practice cutting.
The guy at Kinko's messed up on one of them so he gave it to me for free. The "REAL" one's colors are absolutly ELECTRIC!!!

Still considering changing the button colors to match the placement on the XBOX controller (since it is going to be XBOX based) but I don't know yet.

The material that I used was what Kinkos refers to as "Glossy Paper" which (after printed is more like a semi-gloss and definately NOT paper). I tried to tear a test piece in half and it stretched and then snapped like plastic.

I would actually recommend that when you are actually ready to get your CPO printed go to where you are going to get it printed and ask them to show you what they offer for print mediums (papers, synthetics, etc.) and ask them what sort of printing process they use for each particular medium.

In my case Kinko's uses a HUGE format printer with straight-up inkjet (cmyk) cartriges. Though they were industrial grade, I did expect more.  Also, get a proof but if it sucks don't get discouraged. I got a proof of my CPO done and when I looked at it It really lowered my expectations as to what I was going to get out of this.
BUT, when I got the actual print out (after switching the print media) I was jumping up and down laughing, and all but hugged the guy.

So, convert your image into CMYK or Pantone depending on the printer (unless you are a good gambler or don't really care about specific colors), and if you decide to go with straight up inkjet on synthetic media like I did get some sort of protective coating or else it will scratch off like a lottery ticket.

Just some friendly words of advice from a fellow first timer!

Good Luck!

Whoa...I'm having flashbacks of 3rd-5th grade.

I wouldn't normally advocate damaging something you just built, but when she's done, you should track down or repro some old Bones Brigade/Powell Peralta, Santa Cruz, and Vision Street Wear stickers, slap 'em on, and give her a bit of scuffing and a few cigarette burns.  Then you'd have the complete 80s package.

I really do like that overlay!

I thought the Bones Brigade was in the 1970s.  I really liked the Z-boyz documentary.

The bones brigade video show came out in 1984. The skaters were Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Mike Mcgill, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen and Per Welinder. If you are going to go with the old skate stickers, I think Powell Peralta's "rat bones", Santa Cruz "Rob Roskop" and Vision's "Mark Gonzalez" and "Gator" designs would be primo.

This is sooo funny,

You guys are hitting it right on the head. I grew up skateboarding and looking up to all of the old school skaters. I was always skating around town and going to the local arcades without a care in the world.

I have really been wanting to do something that would commemorate and solidify my memories of going out with my buddies to skate, slapping stickers on all my sh*t and playing all the nearest beat-down laundromat cabs.

Thanks for all the kind words!

-=XD=-

ps. Stickers will be slapped!

I was so totally thinking Gonz, Gator (rot in prison, murdering SOB), and Roskop.  I was actually thinking of asking Xonix if he wanted a Roskop deck to prop against the cab:

But, it's kinda hard to let go of... :-\  I'd kinda planned on using it myself once I'd gotten around to building my own cab.

Time to open up my box of Thrasher mags!

I've seen vision using the Gator graphics without his name. It's such a classic 80's graphic, too bad it's associated with such a scum bag. Have you seen "Stoked", that documentary about Gator and the murder?

This thread is inspiring me to get started on a skate themed cab.

Yeah, I've seen the Vision reissues of the art, with all Gator references removed.  I haven't seen the documentary yet, but I'm glad you reminded me about it.  I've got a 1988 or '89 issue of Thrasher where the victim's brother wrote in.  If I remember, I'll dig it up.

Xonix, if I still have any older Sk8 stickers, I'll throw 'em your way if you want them.  I'm storing stuff here at work, and there's a good chance that they're actually here where I can find them.

Edit:  Yup, I found 'em.  Not extremelly oldschool, but some decent ones.  Tech Deck used to sell seperate packs of stickers by brand, throwing in one with their own logo as well.  I've got:

Edit again: scanned them, list not necessary:

All Santa Cruz, but one thing about the 80s, you could never have too many stickers and overlapping was king.  I had to adjust the color levels, because EVERYTHING had a blue hue, instead of it's actual colors.  It's as close as I can do without physically going in and hand editing them.  Hit me up with a PM if you want them.

CPO looks awesome. Just seeing the color scheme gives me flashbacks of eighth grade.

I work at a Kinko's and the polypropylene that they printed on first would suck for a CPO. It's officially listed as the "full-color indoor banner" material.  If you breathe on it wrong it'll scuff. There is actually an adhesive-backed vinyl that with a textured laminate should turn out really nice for a CPO. But at $18 per square foot, one might be better off to go the mamemarquees.com route.  On the other hand, that stuff works pretty well for marquee art. I just printed up a marquee tonight for a JAMMA board with a missing marquee.

The DesignJet printer does an amazing job of printing. It is a giant inkjet, but with really high resolution and 6-color UV-resistant inks. Best results are had with RGB images @ 100dpi or higher.

Is the material they printed on a heavyweight paper? Lamination is a must for durability.

I can't wait to see how the rest turns out.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

I don't know jack about papers. I think they called this one Glossy paper. but its more of a plastic if you ask me.
