What operating system did the emachine have on it?

If it was XP, the IE favorites should be at the following location on the computer:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Favorites

Where "YOUR_USER_NAME" is the name of the profile you logged in as (i.e. Mr_Biggs).  Could also be "All Users" or "Administrator"

If Windows Millenium or 98, they are in C:\Windows\Favorites

umm, they were correct on where the bookmarks are located.  Do you have explorer set to show hidden and system file and folders?  Otherwise my only guess is compaq did something wierd to IE and stored them in an unusual place.

Hmmm...the favorites are stored as short cuts so searching for a certain file extension wont be of much use.  Have you tried searching your entire computer for a folder called "Favorites"?  (it sometimes has the star icon instead of the folder icon.)  If that doesn't produce anything, I'm guessing you're SOL.

It's definitely in a folder called favourites. Mine are here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Favorites

If you're using a user name other than administrator, just swap it and it'll take you there directly.
Now in a tasty new flavour.
