Two icons for MAME32
« on: February 16, 2006, 06:35:28 am »
This is a copy of a message I've sent to the MAME32FX board. In case you are interested...

For my own personal build based on MAME32FX I've decided to make two new changes, apart from all the rest of modifications of the code that I normally do. These changes are merely aesthetic. I'm writing here because I've thought that maybe you could be interested in adding this to your build. My contribution is the replacement of two icons, which are inadequate, both in MAME32, MAME32FX, MAME Plus, etc. I previously browsed the web searching for alternatives with no success. First, harddisk.ico. In some builds they use the standard icon that comes with XP, which is nice, but doesn't represent a folder. It's a good idea that MAME32FX has all the icons in the tree as folders. However, this one has a CDROM. I suppose they used this icon because there's no other XP folder icon with a hard disk. I think the one I've made is quite nice. It's really hard to represent a tiny harddisk over a folder in 16x16 pixels, but I think my icon works in this sense. Secondly, joystick.ico. The XP icon for games devices show a control pad. But, a control pad has to do with MAME? It's a heresy! ;) I think the best candidate for that is an arcade control panel. I've drawn an icon inspired in compact single player control panel. I've coloured the buttons following the colour scheme I'll use for the control panel I'm planning on building (the third one now). I hope you like it. Here you can see the differences between before and after.

I like your work.

PM me if you are interested in making icons for the GameEx Theme Editor.
