Question about games fitting the screen :)
« on: February 14, 2006, 08:19:50 pm »
Hi Everyone

I have a PC monitor 20" and I am using an ati radeon 7500.  Is there a reason why some games fit the monitor perfectly and others display incorrectly?  TMNT turtles in time is about an inch and a half from the left side of the monitor?  Is there any way to make all games fit correctly.  I believe in the mame.ini I have hwstretch set to 1.  Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Jason ???

Your PC monitor probably needs adjusting in some modes.

I have this problem too.. although with very few games. Mainly the zinc ones actually.

Also my PC monitor manual dials settings could stretch the image a little bit more to the left, as its off by about a cm - is there any way of doing this via software, rather than manually moving the dials/buttons, as I can no longer access the dials/buttons due to the way my cab was completed.
I have an IBM P202

OK so it needs adjusting, whats the best way to go about this.  Should I force mame to one resolution through mame.ini and then adjust the monitor for that?  Would that be the best solution?

its a give and take process - you'll never get it perfect for every game/emu

Play a game, adjust your monitor.  Play another, adjust your monitor if neccessary.  And so on...you should be able to get all modes fullscreen ok.

doesnt work on mine. If you stretch anad adjust via the manual controls, it does so for all resolutions, I think...

Does yours have an On Screen Display (& memory)?  Generally these type use pushbuttons, some (older) monitors use 'dials' (pots probably).  The latter type usually only has one setup, the former saves position/size info etc. for each mode (basically).

mine has push buttons. But its too late now- cabs completed and I cannot get to the buttons anymore - unless there is some software that can change the controls for me!

That's what I do.  Specifically, I use MultiRes (www.entechtaiwan.com) to specify that 800x600 should be at 85 Hz.  Set that up in windows to display full-screen, and then use -hws to make MAME play it that way.

DarthBane2k - Most newer graphics drivers also allow you to adjust these settings through the driver screen.

Graphics Drivers - not monitor drivers - ATI Catalyst, Nvidia (uhh, whatever they call it).

I had the same problem and wound up having to twiddle with the zoom feature in MAME32.  Most of the time, it's set to 3, but I've noticed that most Capcom games I have to set at 5 in order for them to fill my whole monitor.  Haven't had a problem since.
