Building rotation mechanisms for 25-29 inch monitors
« on: February 14, 2006, 04:13:53 pm »
Hi

I have been thinking of builiding a monitor rotation mechanism for larger monitors like 25-29, but this seems like a big challenge for me. The solutions for 20" monitors are not interesting since these cabinet are wide anough to fit a wooden plate, which could be rotated. I have not had the chance to get a throughly look at the rotation mechanisms used for cabinets like Egret 1-3.

The issue appears as you may know when you attempt to rotate a 29" monitor inside the cabinet since the diagonal of the monitor is longer than the width of the cabinet. Therefore you have to take the whole asembly out and put it back. I know the Taito Egret cabinest have such mechanism so you don't have to be strong to lift out the whole 40 kg heavy assembly by yourself you with another friend of yours. If you could show me some detailed pics and instructions how to build such mechanism I would be extremely grateful.

I think the Egret mechanism involves pulling the screen forward ever so slightly so it can rotate "in front" of the cab. I don't know how they support the monitor this way as I've not seen one up close.

The only other home-built mechanisms I've seen using large monitors involve large circular wooden supports, so you need a wide cab or happy to have bits coming out the side of your cab while you rotate....

Silver:

Yes, if you cab is wide enough you could much easier build one, but then we are talking about a damn wide cab over 80 centimeters! :o   I already have an Atomisewave Egret 3 cab without this mechanism. I am sure someone else have built a similar mechanism, but there are no blue prints of these.

Ah - are you looking to add one to your egret?

I know there are some well documented Egrets in the projects forum, people who've taken them apart - they have more info.

Edit: eg: http://www.solvalou.com/arcade_egret.php

Has pics of the monitor rotating. I was wrong, it does not pull out. You simply lift the front of  cab case to let the monitor rotate - the support for rotating must be behind the fornt of the monitor...

surely to rotate a monitor inside the cabinet it has to be wider than the diagonal of the monitor :-\
