What's the deal with Ash in Housewares?
« on: February 12, 2006, 05:30:58 pm »
Is that from a movie and if so, which one?

I was reading a few paintball articles and saw one written by an AKA "Ash", and I know there's one here....thought "I wonder if they could be one and the same".  Then, on another forum, unless he's stalking me, I see ANOTHER "Ash".  What/who/where is that name from?

Ash, are you stalking me?  Soapboy's got his eyes on me, so you'll have to fight him for me ;D

As a heart attack, I was.  I've never seen it.  Sounds like a Freddy/Halloween/Chainsaw type of movie.  I definitely know that it was unremarkable enough movie to have never made an impression on me to want to watch it.

I'm still on the "probably not ever going to watch it" path.

If the "Ash" that frequents here ever wrote an article for a paintball-related magazine/website, nice work.

To take my own thread in an entirely different direction, unless you turn up the psi on your gun, why does everyone cry about it hurting when you get hit in paintball?  I even got hit on bare skin, and while leaving a mark (like a mosquito bite), it certainly didn't hurt ANY time I got hit.  I was prolly wearing one more layer than anyone because it was friggen cold in the arena, but still....

And getting skimmed across the canards by a shot....well, I can see how THAT would hurt like all hell, but other than that, I don't get it.

Drew:

You have got to see:

Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness

These are the campiest horror movies ever made.  They are tremendously fun.  Ash is the main character played by Bruce Campbell and he is funny as ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Hail to the king baby!!!!!!!!!!!

Ash is king  ;D i love the evil dead series altho the first evil dead was a horror the evil dead 2 and 3 are comedys

evil dead 2 is a funny version of evil dead

Bruce Campbell is a great actor its a shame he is always a background character but he has the voice and the look that lets him play anything.

But in the evil dead series he has somany one liners its funny i've been a evil dead/Ash fan for ages

he says Groovy in shuch a cool way

But my fav quote :D

Duke Henry: You're not one of my vassals... who are you?
Ash: Who wants to know?
Duke Henry: I am Henry the Red. Duke of Shale, Lord of the Northlands and leader of its peoples.
Ash: Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things: Jack and sh_it ... and Jack just left town.

lol love that quote

Seriously drew u will love these moves u should rent then now now now

Well, if you had only said "now" twice, I'd have had to think about it.  Since you tripled it up, I guess I've GOT to get 'em ;)

Evidently it's not as dumb as it sounds.  I'll see if the lye-bary has one of 'em tomorrow.  Maybe I'll be glad I asked this after all ;D

You will not be disappointed.  You can skip #1 if you want, though.

Basically, they started out to make a cheap horror pic, and it ended up sucking, but it sucked in a funny way.  Then, they decided to try again, and they re-made the same movie, with the same script, director, and lead actor.  But the 2nd time, they went for the laughs on purpose.  It became such a cult thing, that they made a sequel 6 years later- Army of Darkness.

Groovy!

Army of Darkness is one of my all time favorite movies, I can't say enough good things about it.  Rumor has it the director (Sam Raimi) is going to make a 4th one once he's done with the Spiderman series (he's been directing all the Spiderman movies so far).  Actually its not really a rumor since I heard him say that in an interview with Mark & Bryan (morning radio show).  Luckily the rumors of Ashton Kutcher starring in it are false.

Drew,

You have been so deprived.  You must rent it.  I say go with Army of Darkness, the one lines are priceless.  I remember a mod on Doom II when someone took soundbites of the movie and imported them to the game.  PRICELESS

" Ewwww, that's gotta hurt "
" You used to love me when I was beautiful ", " Baby, you got real ugly, real fast "
" This is my BOOMSTICK "

See it now.....

Army of Darkness has tons of quotables.
It's a cool movie because the director is basically making a spoof of his own movies (Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2).
There are tons of bad puns and one-liners, it's awesome.

That's right, shop smart, shop S-Mart!

However, if you rent or get the dvd there's several versions of the movie.  If you can get the special editiion ,that's the best.  The first dvd I got from someone, it happens to be the editted made for tv version that cuts a couple of scenes and changes some dialog (no Bad? Good? I'm the one with the gun.), this is the one I think most rentals have.  If you search amazon it is the first dvd listed.  I have the LE directors cut which only has the directors version (which has a crappy ending and you miss the "Name's Ash . . . housewares.").
I gotta pick up the special edition, which I believe has everything.
There's also a boomstick edition which I think is the normal movie with the option of viewing the directors cut.
Oh yeah, and there is an official bootleg version :)

Ash: Now listen up, you primitive screwheads. See this? This... is my boomstick! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You *got* that?

Sheila: But what of all those sweet words you spoke in private?
Ash: Oh that's just what we call pillow talk, baby, that's all.

The problem with this quote is someone who hasn't seen the movie won;t find it funny, you need to see the scene it is in :)

in the evil dead 2 i like the part when everything starts laughing and the hand gotta love the hand.  and those red necks very good job.  and how when hes being chased the camera is gaining on him and then the next few frames it is farther behind him despite him failing down every 5 steps.

pinnacle is the word to describe the series.

I love the whole Evil Dead series.  My arcade machine is even going to be called Arcade of Darkness (SirP began helping with a marquee but got busy, then I stopped working on the cab).  I got all three dvd's and enjoy them all

Drew for god's sake you are getting some downright horrific advice here.  Anybody recommending that you go out and pick up Army of Darkness needs a chainsaw up the ass.  Army of Darkness is the direct sequel to Evil Dead 2.  It picks up EXACTLY where Evil Dead 2 ends.  It would be like someone finding out you had never seen or even heard of the first Star Wars Trilogy and recommending that you start with Return of the Jedi.  Don't damage an experience as exquisite as Evil Dead 2 by watching Army of Darkness first.  There are HUGE portions of the Evil Dead 2 story given away in Army of Darkenss.  In fact the movie begins with a recap of all the important things from that movie, complete with video clips.

As if all that wasn't enough, Evil Dead 2 is considerably better and funnier than Army of Darkness.  If you were going to ruin one, you would want it to be Army of Darkness.  But luckily, if the fools in this thread haven't already succeeded in ruining something as beautiful as the Evil Dead series for you, you can just start with Evil Dead 2, and then you don't have to ruin either of them.

As has already been mentioned you can skip the first Evil Dead.  It's not a prequel to the other two movies.

Again IF YOU ONLY SEE ONE, SEE EVIL DEAD 2 BECAUSE IT'S FAR BETTER.  IF YOU THINK YOU WILL EVER WATCH BOTH, SEE EVIL DEAD 2 FIRST, BECAUSE IT IS  FAR BETTER AND WATCHING THEM OUT OF ORDER RUINS EVIL DEAD 2.

I disagree with your statement of Evil Dead 2 being far better, I think Army of Darkness was better then Evil Dead 2.  Evil Dead 2 was as much horror movie as it was comedy, Army of Darkness was almost entirely a comedy.  Theres a reason the majority of the quotes people gave were from AoD, its a funnier movie.  Now ED2 was a very good movie and should be seen before AoD if possible, but it is much harder to find a copy of.  Obviously try to find them both, but if you can't find ED 2, go ahead and watch AoD.  AoD was also the first movie with a budget and is better in every way money can make a movie better (more actors/extras, better special effects, more varied locations).  The reason they did a recap in the beginning of AoD is because AoD was the first movie to make it to a theater (which is where I first saw it) and the majority of the audience would not have seen ED2.

In short, if you can find Evil Dead 2, watch it first, if you can't find it, then watch Army of Darkness.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the whole "London Bridge" scene from Evil Dead 2....

Drew:

Did you get the damn movies yet?

I had to go to the lie-bary again today, so I figured I'd do a search since they'll transfer movies around our system for me.  Turns out they had it right there at the one I was at.  I hate watching VHS, but that's the only format they have it on.

Evil Dead 2 is the only one they have, and I am currently in possession of it.  I'm watching it later on tonight.  What a Valentine's present, hey?!

It's gonna get watched tomorrow.  The Olympics and American Idol took up my night, and farting around on the computer here and there has taken up the rest of my evening.  Dang if National Geographic doesn't have some AWESOME shows on tonight too!

You, my friend, are a Nancy-Boy. You watched American Idol instead of Army of Darkness? Don't you have some fancy tivo thingy ::) :D

Get up, right now, and watch that movie! I expect a report by noon.

Tomorrow me and a few friends are going to get together and run an Evil Dead marathon on his 72" projector. I was mentioning this thread to them yesterday and we just decided to do it.

Everyone her is invited too, if you can make it.

That's a bigass projector.  You know they make them small now, right?

I saw Bruce Campbell in a movie the other day... I think it was Spiderman 2.  Man that movie sucked.

He wa sin both spiderman movies.  In the first one he was the ring announcer in the wrestling match.  In the second one he was the movie usher.

I think he's in all of Sam Raimi's movies, along with his brother Ted Raimi (except for Evil Dead because Ted was too young then), and his car.
Anyone see Man with the Screaming Brain, the one written, directed, and starring Bruce Campbell?  Unfortunately it was no where near as good as I hoped, but better then your average B movie.
