windows xp pro fresh install bootup freeze...
« on: February 09, 2006, 09:11:24 pm »
well, the topic pretty much sums it up.  i wiped the drive to do a fresh install of windows to put in my cab, but after i install and turn it off the first time, it freezes up real quick on that boot up screen with the scrolling bar.  i wiped again to get rid of the problem, but it's done it again.  i can boot into safe mode, but that doesn't help me solve the problem.

any ideas?  i'm using an arcade vga and a kortek monitor to set it up if that matters.  also i've heard of a way to make a bootlog you can check in safe mode to see what the problem might be, but how do i get that option and where is my bootlog?  i'm stumped on this one guys, maybe i'll try to load it up with a regular video card and my lcd monitor.  good thing it's 15 inch and light.

ok, so it starts up fine with my other videocard.

i even installed with my avga.  why won't it start now?  of course it won't let me install avga drivers since i'm using a regular 9800, and for some reason it won't let me in safe mode cause it says it needs directx 8 to install, cept xp comes with directx 8 preinstalled.  stupid computers.  like saint said, computers are not my friend.  today at least.

You might try creating a "slipstream" version of WinXP....you can integrate service packs, and in your case, most importantly, integrate drivers.  This example integrates RAID drivers, but it can also be used to integrate video drivers:

Boot up with whatever card you can.  They hit up Windows Update and download all the updates you can find (should be athe latest DirectX and everyhting else.

Also install the drivers for the other video card if you can or at least get them on the computer somwhere.

Then try putting your other video card in there and see if it can come up and install its drivers.

i finally fixed it by forcing a driver install in safe mode.  for further details, one should consult the ultimarc page.  silly me, there were directions?
