What is the difference between them?  I've only played the US.

The Japanese version of Mario 2 is basically a continuation of super mario bros. 1 but much much harder. It was originally a famicom disk system game and was deemed too "hard" for american kids. So Nintendo bought the rights to another famicom disk system game called Doki Doki Panic and changed it into a Mario game. Thus Super Mario Bros 2 (or Super Mario USA in japan) as most Americans was born. If you search around a bit you can find more information on it.

One of my all time favorites is Castlevania II.

Sort of side scroller action and RPG at the same time.  Great game.

Man, can't believe no one has said either Tecmo Bowl or Baseball Stars.

The system is worth it for those two games alone.

The games I remember loving most are:

Zelda
Mike Tyson's Punch Out (I could beat it without losing a match, and TKO Tyson in the second round)
Blaster Master
Bionic Commando
Metroid
Tecmo Bowl
Castlevania II
Guardian Legend
Super Mario 1,2,3
Mega Man II  (and the others, but that one is a pinnacle)
RC Pro-AM

And many many others that don't come to mind right now.  Actually, and this could be a bad memory, but I seem to remember Addams Family: Fester's Quest being quite good.

I have a Famicom to NES adapter to play my version of Mario 2 on my American Nes. Take a peek inside your gyromite cart and you might have one too, for awhile nintendo used famicom carts inside their american carts with an adapter.

the gyromite will feel heavier than the average NES cart, so you may be able to tell be weighing it with your hand before smashing it open  :P

Does it have regular screws or gamebit screws? If it has regular screws just pop it open and check you can't hurt anything. But if the game has gamebit screws then it won't have the adapter anyways so you don't have to worry about opening it.

Here is what the inside of a NES cart with a famicom adapter inside. As you can see the famicom game (60 pin) is on top and it plugs into the adapter like a NES game plugs into a game genie. I got my famicom adapter with my mario 2 japan cart on an ebay auction for like $7.

check out this article if you want to know how to spot a gyromite cart that has an adapter in it.

blaster master?

i like the world cup/super spike volleyball combo cart.  even though it was insanely easy.  still good fun with a friend!  never got a chance to play with 4 players though...(or were they 4 player games?  can't remember.)

the gamecrazy i went to had 4 copies and i only checked one and it was the right one.

it seems more of a gimmick then something fun.  it added nothing to gameplay except to distract you and make you spend more for the game.  though id use them as bookends too it would just look cool.

im trying to build up my collection dispite all the roms, emulators and the revolution.  its different because you physically have the game.  though when i get a psp its going to be different but when im home its classic console.  but its hard to find some of the games since theres only ojne store i know of in new jersey that sells the old games but their selection is limited.  there are more stores just that i havent been looking.

but thanks everyone for the picks.

One problem with emulators is timing.  For example I have Parrapa the Rapper for a PSX emulator on my Xbox and I can't play it cos that came requires spot on timing and it doesn't have it.  And I swear Mike Tyson's Punch Out is just a little bit off for my NES emulator on the Xbox.  It's close, and I'm still good, but I'm just not nearly as good as I am on a regular NES and I don't think it's just the controller (though it might be).

Same with the DC, I can't beat Mike Tyson's Punch Out in the emu but I can beat it on the cart.

If you like puzzle games try PipeDreams BomberMan, Lemmings and of course Tetris. I also recommend Quix but I've never seen it run properly through emulation.
