what to do? Dr who repeats are finally over :-(
« on: February 06, 2006, 03:15:49 am »

well, its been a journey of three years or so but it's finally over. the last repeat episode of dr who played last week. i've now seen as many episodes as is possible nowadays- the only people who would have seen more are those who watched them back in the day. and since the series went from 1963 to 1989 i doubt there would have been THAT many who stuck it out! no more rushing home from work to watch the latest drama with rubbery monsters and space ships on strings. actually in the last year or two of the show they used pretty cool computer graphics (for the time). good news is that i might start swimming after work instead. sigh....

right now i should be in front of the tellie catching the show. i think ill go and watch the (turned off) tube just out of respect...

I can't stand the show. But anyways, now that you're done with the Dr Who season, you can move on to a real sci-fi series that has just resumed with new episodes: Battlestar Galactica
NO MORE!!

Moving out of your parent's basement would be a good start.

You could also watch the Dr. Who movie.  I think it's titled "Broke Back Mountain".

Start watching them again (you recorded them right?) and be grateful to live in a country where Dr. Who is still on the air.

Count me in as a Dr. Who nerd.  The cabinet came from England, and houses most of the available episodes.  Unfortunately most of them were recorded on 6 hour speed, and are barely watchable now.  I've begun replacing them with DVD releases, but it will take forever to get them all the way they are slowly releasing them.

Stingray,

You too will soon live in a country that has Dr. Who on the air.  This is from the BBC Website.

So do you guys have like "turf wars" with Trekkies, and folks who play D&D.  I want to see a video game like Grand theft auto, and instead of having Yakuza, and colombian gangs......it has people dressed up like Dr. Who, Star Trek, and D&D characters...fighting it out, dong drive-by's with phasers, and crossbows, beaming up the ho's....

sorry....I need more sleep  :-X

Bittorent is your friend. I have already seen all the episodes that will begin to air on Sci-Fi, here in the US.

The shows usually come out the day after they are released in the UK.

Can't wait for the new season! I didn't really like the new Doctor they had, hopefully the replacement is going to be better.

Paladin - that is a cool video cabinet! Do they still sell them? If so, where?

I'll see your 52 episodes of blakes 7 (along with the 52 episodes of red dwarf) and I'll raise you all 733 episodes of Doctor who (including the new Doctor Who as well as Doctor Who Confidential) on my computer (at least the episodes that weren't lost in the fire, but I do have audio and snapshots of all the lost episodes too)  :P

Blakes 7 is my favourite sci fi series of all time. OK, the special effect were absolutely diabolical even for the late seventies. But I think they mostly got away with it because of the strength of the writing, and the chemistry that existed between the actors. The crew of the Liberator felt like real people to me unlike the boring military types you get to see on shows such as Star Trek.

Oh, and I was given all 52 episodes on VHS video last Christmas.  :P

It's definitely worth sticking with Red Dwarf. The first series is the worst by a wide margin IMHO. I watched a few of the early episodes and almost gave up. I'm glad I persevered because it gets a lot funnier. The final series was also slightly disappointing but watchable (I understand that by then one of the writers had left the show).

Not quite Sci-Fi, but if we're talking favorite British series I have to vote for "The Prisoner".

A guy at work was suprised that I had never heard of the series UFO.  I downloaded them all, and had a kick watching them.  To quote Ash "Grooovy!".  I love how they thought that the 1980's would be so much like the late 60's.

rdmustang, how did you get the original Dr. Who on you computer?  I tried torrent, but it was going so slow it would have taken months just for one season.

Havok, I have no idea if the video cabinets are still being made.  I bought it after seeing it advertised in the "Friends of Dr. Who" newsletter around the time the Fox movie came out.
