Prince on SNL

Okay, I know some of you guys may not like Prince, but his performance on SNL is flawless.

Some of the best guitarwork I've ever seen in my entire life...

I must admit I don't Like Prince's Music very much, BUt after watching that video I have a new Respect for his Gutar SKillz.  Fu%&#n amazing!.  Very Jimmi Hendrix like!  Very talented in my opinion.  My only question is how old is he these days....

Thanks for the post , good find.. free comment!

I've never been a Prince fan, but I've always respected the fact that he's a really really talented musician.  My favorite Prince tune has always been that Sinead O'connor song.  In fact, my favorite Sinead recording is that song written by Prince

Oh, but I was just watching my Replayed copy of last night's SNL and I didn't fast forward through that first song because it wasn't bad.  And the guitar playing was pretty damn good.

Yeah, Prince is back on the map. If you listened to that solo carefully, at the end, you could hear Eddie Van Halen weeping...

Agreed, Mr. C.

Totally late 70s Van Halen.

Just last week I asked some of my co-workers what happened to Prince, since I don't think we've heard from him in about eight years. One of them didn't even know who Prince was and it took a good 15 minutes of extremely gay immiatations before she recognized any of his songs! Fair enough, she's only 18 but WTF!?

I saw it.  It was good.  It was even very good.  But comparisons to Eddie Van Halen and Hendrix?

Puh-lease.  :)

Give me the Edge any day.

It's hard to say, isn't it?  It's not like very many people left have seen Hendrix live.  I've seen Prince a few times, though.  I've also seen Eddie Van Halen a couple of times.  From what I do know of Hendrix I would not put Prince anywhere near him nor Eddie Van Halen.  Prince is great, plays a mean ass solo, but much of being great is in being able to carry the whole effort with your guitar artistry.  Prince writes great songs but is not a guitarist that could carry everything with the guitar work alone.

The guy I've seen live, other than Eddie Van Halen, who could carry anything was Slash.  OMGBBQ was he amazing.  He was a lot more like what I think Hendrix must have been like than anyone else I've seen live.

I think the references to Hendrix and Halen were more of just recognizing the sound in the play, not total domination of a guitar, so I wouldn't start comparing them since I don't think that's what was meant.  I heard it too, and was a little disappointed in the second song after hearing the first.  Overall, one of the best SNL's in a long time.  I liked the opening, pretty dang funny.

Possibly...

Then again, he could have just stared you down, making you THINK he roundhouse kicked you in the face.

Why didn't you just have Macguyver do it?  He coulda fixed it with a rubber band and balloon.  Plus no asskicking involved!
