winipac windows 2000 pro - can't install
« on: January 28, 2006, 10:08:26 pm »
I put an old p2 233 in my cabinet for testing purposed until I can get an new rig and move my 1.7GHz into the cabinet.

The 233 is running windows xp pro.  I can't get winipac to install.  I get an error message about some system files being out of date.  It asks me if I want to update them, which requres a reboot.  If I say yes, it restarts and then when I try and install winipac I still get the same error message.

I can get winipac to run if I run it right from the CD, or from a folder on my C drive whick I unzipped everything to, but it won't talk to the ipac.  it times out when I try and use the program option.

If I try to run the setup from the unzipped folder I get a bad command line error (or something like that).

Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on.  If I speculate wildly, I think.... maybe uses the .net framework which I don't have on the old win 2000 machine?

I wouldn't worry about it, but the P1 shift function isn't working.  It has all of the default mame commands, and I can play the games old enough that my slow 233 with run them, but I need escape, and would like alt, tab, enter, and pause, so I don't have to keep opening my keyboard drawer.

Thanks in advance anyone.

Have you tried connecting the Ipac to the other computer and seeing if WinIpac will run on it?  I believe you can try running the program on another computer without the Ipac attached.  The program doesn't communicate to the Ipac until you hit update (I think).

At least we can troubleshoot this way to see if it is a problem specific to the slow computer.

Yes,

I already had it running on the 1.7 in the office.  I customized things there.  I still have the "ultimate arcade controls" shortcut in my start menu.  This is where the games reside.  I have a minumum of games on the 233 for testing purposes and it only has a 3 gig hard drive; which incidentally was huge when the computer was new about 7 years ago.

It won't be long and I'll have the wife convinced it's a good idea to buy a new computer.  Then I can move the 1.7 down to the cabinet in the basement.
