U2000 problems
« on: January 23, 2006, 09:48:27 pm »
I just bought a sega die hard game with a wells gardner 25k2193.  I believe that is a u2000 monitor.  I have only a horizontal line on screen.    Can anyone help me get a repair manual for this monitor, and can some one give me some directions on where to start.  I keep reading about pin 9 of u601.  What is u601 what should i find at this pin.
I am a car mechanic with very little monitor repair experience.  All I have done is put a cap kit in a g-07.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
   Thanks Dean.

Hello Dean,

Here is some info that may help you on the top of this page:
http://www.americangaminginc.com/technical/tech_support.asp

U601 is the vertical defection IC, pin 9 is the power going into it.  If you have no power there then this would most likely be your problem.  I am no monitor expert, others here know much more than I!  Just thought the link above may give you a head start.

it's suppose to be +30dc volts coming from pin 9 but you can check it at the TP right next to the IC. I usually find TDA1771 faulty when I get a vertical collapse but it's always good to check components associated with the IC.

Thank you woodygjw for the diagrams and voltage reference chart.
Censei, thank you for direction, but now I have more questions.
If I do find 30dcv at the test point does that indicate a good IC.
And if I do not get 30dcv does that indicate a bad IC or should I also check power to the IC??  If so what supplies power to the IC?
thanks, Dean

The U2000 (standard resolution) and it's brother the U5000 (medium resolution) were very trouble-plagued. They were quickly replaced by the models K7400 and K7500 respectively.

There are a couple of modification kits you need to buy and install to fix these U2000 monitors. They are ordered straight from the parts department at Wells-Gardner in McCook, ILL.

I have written a repair guide on this model in Microsoft Works format.

There is always suppose to be +30 regardless if the IC is working or not. If you're not getting +30 you have a power failure. Trace the +30 line and check the components along the line until you reach the transformer.

Wow I get distracted easily.  Well, I decided to take another look at this monitor recently.  I traced the 30V+.  I found no voltage at the test point near U601.  And no voltage all the way to R303.  This resistor is open, and it also has no voltage going to it.  Is it correct to assume that the flyback is no good?  Is that what supplies power to this resistor?  If so I guess at the very least I would need the Resistor#303 and a flyback transformer.
Also I have looked for a local (Canadian) parts supplier of Wells Gardner parts, I could not find one that had the repair kits Ken mentioned.  Does anyone know what parts are in the kits, maybe I can piece them together.  So I wouldn't get over charged with shipping, duties, and brokerage fees.  Like the last time I ordered parts from outside Canada.

I dont want to hijack this topic, but while we are talking about the U2000, I was just curious, has anyone had any luck with using a U2000 tube with a generic chasis replacement?
