Nead help identifying song. Late 70s/early 80s I think...
« on: January 22, 2006, 05:06:05 pm »
This song was a relatively big radio hit in the US.   I heard it on the radio the other day and grabbed a pencil to write down some lyrics so I could Google it when I got home.  Unfortunately, I can find the song.  I must have mangled some of the words.

Like I said, I think it's a song from the late 70s/early 80s.  It kind of reminds me of the Head East tune "Never Been Any Reason" in a stylistic sense.

The lyrics I wrote down are:

Code: [Select]
"My mind says no but my heart is beating faster"
I could be wrong about the word "beating" and it could actually be "speaking"

The vocalist is male, but it's like a group of voices emphasize the final word(s) at the end of each line in the verse.   So, in the line above, the word "faster" is sung by multiple voices (perhaps the lead singer's voice just multi-tracked)

After repeating the same, somewhat non-melodic, lines four of five times it breaks into a chorus which is something like "there it goes again Ahhh... ahhh... ahhh... there is goes again"  or "there we go again" or something like that.

Anybody know the song?

You da' man!  That's it. "Ahh Leah" by Donnie Iris.  I would have never recognized the title, nor the artist, but that's definitely it.

Accoriding to unofficial Donnie Iris site, the real lyric is "our minds said no but our hearts were talkin faster"  I was a little off and had tried a number of combinations, but I was sure of the "MY mind" part that all my searches came up with nothing.

Thanks LCDdream.  I had actually just made a MIDI file of how the melody goes and was going to post it here in the hopes that somebody would recognize it but the mystery is already solved.

Thanks!

Donnie Iris still gets lots of airplay in Pittsburgh.  He's a hometown boy and held in pretty high regard here.   I  think I hear more Iris now than when his material was charting.

"Love can rock you, never stop you, love is like a rock!"

I had no idea that was him either.

Don't forget "I Can't Hear You".
The title may not ring any bells but surely you must remember the line
"Stop all your bitchin' back in the kitchen."

My brother in law's sister named her first kid Allia 'cause she liked that song and thought "Ahh Leah" was one name.
