Where is screenshot archive?
« on: January 22, 2006, 02:33:40 pm »
What happened to the screenshot archive?  I recall the owner was talking about shutting it down but I thought someone had agreed to rehost it?

Can anyone provide the new link?

I handed over the site content to Mahuti (of localarcade.com) a few weeks ago.  I'm sure he'll have it all available soon.

I thought maybe I could get / buy the name from you for some continuity and then redirect it to my domain name servers... let me know if you are interested, otherwise I'll post the content at localarcade.com and make a note here.

Okay, I'm in the process of uploading the entire screenshotarchive to localarcade.com

It will take about 1 day to get it all uploaded. When it's up, I'll post a link and PRAY my hosts processor doesn't get overloaded. :/ This'll probably put me over the top and then I'll have to go with dedicated hosting. Too bad I can't get advertising.

Just wanted to say, please consider me if you have hosting difficulties with Screenshot archive. I have a good ISP account. My only condition would be to place a few legal non obtrusive adsense google ads on the page. However my intentions are deffinitly for the scene.

Thanks,

Tom.

You're on Dreamhost so I doubt very seriously you'll be overloaded (30+gig/daily bandwidth).  Retroblast is also with them and that site gets just a few hits daily. :)

Is this done yet?  I'm setting up MAME from scratch and was looking for Screenshots to use in there.  I went to the localarcade.com site and can find marquees, side art, etc...  but no screenshots...

Anyone know someone else I can download some?

I don't have a problem with bandwidth... just processor, which IS a problem with Dreamhost (and other hosts as well when you consume as much as I do). And as far as Retroblast goes... I guarantee I get more traffic and processor load than he does on my servers.

I have most of it uploaded, but not complete. It's a few gig upload and I work out of the home with Vonage and stuff going all day, so it's not as fast as it could be. I'll get back on it this week. I was a little preoccupied with making Led-wiz stuff last week :D

Stuzza is currently involved in "real life" and so does not have time to get the domain name itself transferred to me. I'm in the process of bidding on the expired domain name :-/ and buying it. If I win the bid, I will be putting the site back up exactly as it was left. The auction process on the expired domain goes for 5 days from now. Though I'm the current high bidder, it may end up going for more than I'm willing to pay. In that case, it will be gone to someone else for good. I can't imagine that it  will go very high, but who knows... anyone interested in contributing donations to buying the domain name back... PM me.  You'll mostly get warm feelings. I'll also put a small "thanks to you" on the site if I do indeed need extra help buying the name.

Mahuti, how about going with screenshotarchives.com?

I'd be happy to help out with the other if that's what you want to stick with though. I just got into non-mame emulators myself and having the screenshots was a big plus, I would like to help keep it around.

I don't really care about the name at all, really, it's just nice for the rest of the world to have the continuity.

The bid is already up to $35 with 4 days to go :-/

Lame. Oh well... we'll see where it goes.

Mahuti

Your screenshot archives site currently lists 350 Visual Pinball table screenshots.  This is way outdated.  I took the time, when I installed by Visual Pinball stuff to accurately create 1386 Screenshots for all the tables I have downloaded.

If you would like to put them on your site, thus replacing the current VPinball pack of only 350 (which is 2 years old now), then let me know and we can determine how to get them to you.   Just give me create below the download link of course   :)

The files are 248Meg (or 245Meg RAR'd) .

You can email me directly or reply to this post of course.

PS:  You might also want to remove Stuzzo's email from the "Contact" link as well, since he no longer would like to get email regarding this site .... I guess.

Regards,

Well, the bid is up to $55, so I'm out. If I raise it to $60, I still would have to pay $9 on top of that to get it, and I just don't care THAT much. I guess I'll just put a link on the main page of localarcade.

If anyone wants to contribute to the "save the screenshotarchive domain name fund" let me know, otherwise it's going away in 6 hours.

Mahuti. Don't you realize that links are like gold? The original domain and original pages are already linked to from hundreds of websites (1,330 links according to Google). It's already Googled, etc. There's alot of value in that.

Plus, not everyone checks links and fixes them when they get broken. And not everyone does a search to find the a replacement. They will see the site is dead and assume just that. Its dead.

Right, but I don't care enough to pay for somebody else's convenience. Not $60 worth. I don't care if there's traffic, because I don't make any money off of it. Knievel kindly offered some cash, I'd intended to put up to $40 for it (plus my hosting expenses) but that's all the help I've been offered.

It's not my fault that stuzza didn't transfer the name to me... or that somebody else is jacking up the price on an auction for the name. If you care that much, put your money where your mouth is, otherwise don't lambast me for not spending a personal fortune to save something for the good of a community that obviously cares until there's a price tag.

I don't mean to be a jerk about it, but I don't see why I am expected to pick up the slack... I offered to host, and I would have gladly paid standard domain fees as well... I don't see why it's my responsibility to pay a jacked up auction fee for somebody elses convenience.

PS. somebody else won the auction for $76 plus $9 in fees. That puts it up to $85. I had originally been willing to spend up to $35 then I raised it to $50, then Knievel offered some... that still wasn't enough.

The domain name "Screenshotarchive.com" is now someone elses baby. Cry about it.

Completely missed this thread. I'm late for everything.

I know nothing about how these things work but is it too late to sort out or make the new owner an offer?.

I'd be happy to pitch in up to about
I didn't touch it....honest!

At this point I don't think it matters that much. I already have tons of traffic to my current sites that I can use to refocus google on the new screenshotarchive.

The important thing is that I have the content.
