(This is a repost from mameworld.info's forums. I'm thinking it might get more notice here, since it can possibly directly affect emulators besides just my current FE of choice, Mamewah)
So I've finally got my mamewah machine to my first 'test' build and am ready to really mess with stuff.
Currently, I have the following bits running in mamewah:
Mame
Gbm
GBc
GBA
NES
SNES
Gen
32x
SegaCD
TG-16
Movies
So I've got a ton of games, all set up with pretty screenshots and titles (boy THAT took forever!!!) with some temporary music (Arcade Ambience tracks) and I'm ready to start setting up my non-mame games to be in their own categories.
Well, the first problem is that *cue scary music* no catver files exist for consoles! *gasp!*
Well, I get stuck in front of my computer for hours at a time, and it's nothing (but tedious and time consuming) for me to go through and hand-edit the hundreds of various console games into my personal vision of what console 'categories' they fall in to. I may be one of those freak 'completists', but I think it'd be quite helpful.
So, does anyone know if there is an easy way to then take my lists from mamewah and... I don't know... convert them into something that other people can then use or add to?
With the exception of VERY few games that I renamed due to asthetic reasons (I hate how some game sequels are mixed between roman and arabic numerals...) all of them have went through the latest (as of December 05) 'goodtools' dats. I know it would be insane of me to think that I could single-handedly make my own catver for each console out there, but I figure if I'm *already* putting things into categories anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to take those mamewah lists and use them as a basis for other people to use/add to.
So... anyone try this yet for catver or similar files, such as nplayer.ini? Have any good ideas?
If ya want, I can even post my ideas/theories on categories for console games (since they tend to be quite different than arcade games).
PS. Due to personal preference, native language, time involved, and brain power, I'll be sticking to mainly US releases, with a smattering of translated japanese and euro games for the abovementioned systems.
