ps2 cabinet- look out the newbie has a silly question

ok, hoping i dont have to dodge any rocks for this, but...
ive been doing a little searching, but havent found anything about what im looking for.
can you take a shortcut and build a nice set-up running a PS2 instead of a computer? i was thinking it would be nice to flushmount the front of the PS2 where the coin slot would go so you can change games, and running the controls through typical ultimarc type buttons+joystick.  all in all a short-cut for a first-timer.  are their any websites, or even threads that cover these ideas.

I believe one user on here flushmounted the top of his gamecube to the cabinet so that teh fliptop came out, you replaced teh game, and hit the power switch.  Not sure about that one, sorry.  I also know Paigeoliver used a CD-rom drive flushmounted in one of his cabs, and it seemed to be rather easy.

An option may be to use HDLoader and save all your games to a hard drive, then just extend the reset switch so you can quickly switch between games. 

For controls, both Ultimarc and X-Arcade offer joysticks/buttons-->PS2 adapters, I have no experience with either other than the Ultimarc IPac adn IPAC VE worked great in my cab. 

Hopefully there's enough here to get you started.  Try searching for dreamcast in cabinet to see what eople have done with consoles.  Nanuu has also done a nintendo cab, and if you search in the Project Announcements for Paigeoliver you should find his cab in there.

I have (among a PC and Dreamcast) a PS2 in my arcade cabinet and it works pretty good.
I have it set up with HDLoader running from the memorycard (by tricking the machine, no mods required)
I have the controls (two 8-way joysticks, 6 buttons & startbutton per player) wired to two hacked PSOne pads.
Within one minute after flicking the machine on, I have my list of games to choose from.
Some games are better played with analog controls though, so sometimes I use a PS2-controller.

GREAT Pluspoint: it supports both PAL and NTSC (import for me), so I can enjoy some of those frantic japanese shoot 'em ups!

yeah, been to the newbie walkthrough area already, and it helped a little.

but i guess i should have eplained the question a little better.  Im working out the details as I go...

the easiest way to explain it by hearing the plan

building it in stages so i can use it while working on the next step

step 1 build an empty cabinet
step 2 fill it with rxtra 19 inch tv + playstation+ buy X-arcade joysticks/20 button bundle with playstation adapter to install and play "as is"

step 3 buy x-arcade build you own arcade kit and wait until i replace current desktop and use this one in the cab

Ok, but you might want to opt for another brand of joysticks (and buttons) than the X-Arcade type.
I've heard a lot of bad things about the original X-Arcade sticks.
Are you going to use a SCART tv or an S-Video type? (keep in mind what type of AV-switch you're going to need)

The Xarcade sticks suck, but the BYOA kit is an awesome product if you are planning multiple consoles or console + PC/MAC.

actually its going to be a bartop, and eventually just 19 in moniter+pc with mame-no playstation, but playstation2 until i can get the computer pieces/parts collected and figured out. very new to me, and im learning as i go.

...so if the X-arcade stuff isnt that great, does anyone else make a similar package. its hard to turn down a kit with all the parts for a first-timer.  the bundle has 2 joysticks, 20 buttons, wires, and this adapter to get it all together http://www.xgaming.com/htm/installation.shtml
