MP3 Looper

I've been playing guitar for years now and often just learn songs by ear from listening to the song at regular speed. Stop, Rewind, Play, etc...

I met a guy who swears by the MP3 looper software above. Basically, it slows down the song, but keept the music at the same pitch, allowing you to learn tricky lead parts quicker/easier and automatically repeats it.

Does anyone know of any other software out there that can do the same thing as the MP3 Looper? I searched, but could not find anything exactly like this. I thought someone here might know of other resources I could look at.

I've been searching too.  There is something called hte Amazing Slow Downer which I tried but it;s shareware.  Only does 1 minute of a song until registered.

I'm implying that, like me, when you find something that you think you'd like, the first thing you do is look for a free version.

Just use a WAV editor. Time-stretch the file with Pitch preservation turned on.

Check out Audacity.  Pretty powerful, and open source.

I'm only experienced with Sound Forge. It's not exactly cheap software. Maybe they have a trial or "lite" version.

No problem.  Haven't messed with SoundForge since college, but I think Audacity might be shaping up to be a good replacement for it.

not sure about audacity's capabilities but if you "aquire" a copy of VirtualDJ or AtomixMP3 they support pitch shift (or speed shift without affecting pitch) and will loop over anything from 1/4 beat to 32 beats
