MameWAH and MESS
« on: January 09, 2006, 11:59:54 pm »
I couldn't get Mess to work with Mamewah. Either Mess wouldn't launch and MameWah would lock the computer or Mess would run in a window. I finally got it to work and figured I would share my findings in hopes that this will help other newbies in this forum. (Please don't flame me for trying to help. I did search for the answers and found NOTHING that worked besides batch files) I set the skip_disclaimer and skip_gameinfo settings in the mess.ini (set them both to 1)

### 0002.ini (mamewah v1.61) ###

JCrouse also has several examples for MESS here: http://home.comcast.net/~cpviewer/downloads.htm

I would love to use MESS in Mame wah, however, I would like to use it like the native GUI where I can just pick one of the many emulators.  Is there anyway to do that, or do I have to set up the emulators individually.

If you mean MESS32, you could just run that as an external application.  Most people prefer to setup individual emulators in Mamewah tho, so all games are launched in the same manor.

Yeah, that is what I do now.  I just love the ability to have one menu screen access every console/ computer emulator.  That way if I want to play some odd system like TI99A I can just select it from the list instead of having to set up a completely new menu screen for it.  Any chance of having that ability in Mamewah?  Thanks man

Sorry I'm still not exactly sure what you want...do you want to launch MESS32 and use that built-in GUI to select the system?  I gather you don't want to setup an 'emulator' for each system within Mamewah (?)

Edit: I read again and I wonder if you want all games for all systems within one list in Mamewah?  If so, this is possible but since I didn't design Mamewah with this in mind it is pretty difficult to do, and probably not worth the hassle IMHO.

Sorry Minwah.  I'd like to have two lists in the Mamewah menu screen for MESS.  One list would have all the emulators that mess emulates and the other would have all the games for the system that is highlighted or selected just like the MESS32 GUI.

To be honest I really don't mind the MESS32 GUI so it's not a huge deal.  I was just wondering if this is possible or if somebody has done it before.  Thank you for your help.

I think the only way you could do this is by setting up each system as a seperate 'emulator' in Mamewah (as per how JCrouse does it)....select the platform in the menu and then the main games list would be updated.  It's not really possible to have 2 lists on the screen at once.

Sorry if I'm still missing the point, I'm not at all familiar with MESS32 or how it works exactly.
