If the other one was normal, then it was a random defect.

Is that picture even real? The story said that it only lived one day. I've been around lots of newborn kittens. They don't open their eyes (eye?) for several days.

And aren't kitten eyes blue for the first month or so? I don't know if that varies from breed to breed though...
