Smoked XBOX
« on: January 08, 2006, 12:14:34 pm »
So I guess it serves me right for trying to MOD my XBOX.  I purchased a mod chip and smoked my XBOX trying to install it.  I purchased another box and modded it fine the 2nd time but now I am wondering what to do with the parts from the first one.  Basically I scratched the motherboard and broke one of the trace wires.  I'm obviously not skilled enough to solder it back.  Should I eBay it as is or can I use the parts some other way?

I've never tried this guy's service, but he supposedly buys XBOX parts...

I honestly don't know if he's reliable or if eBaying might fetch more cash... I just found the guy's webpage a few days ago and figured I would pass it along.   :)

Give your location and maybe you can find another BYOACer with soldering skills.  Bridging a trace is fairly easy as long as you did not really get "SMOKE".

Thanks for the info.  The trace never actually smoked, it's just cut by the scratches I made .  The machine boots and shuts off 3 times before it stops with the front lights blinking red/green.  Maybe I will try and get it repaired.

These things are a cheap way to run a basic media center to stream movies and music.  Maybe I'll actullay play games on the broken one if it can be repaired.

thanks,
Steve

The Llamma is a good service.  I bought a modded xbox from a loser (170)  on ebay that said it worked fine befor he sold.  yeah right.  it had the red and green x-mas lights (traces)  and they fixed!!  it runs with out an issue.  the price is not that bad if you did not have to fork over alot to get it.
