Virtual CD
« on: December 31, 2005, 12:14:46 am »
I used to run a product called Virtual-CD (if i recall the name correctly) that allowed me to load my CD based games to my HDD and run them from there without inserting the CD each time I wanted to play them.  This is for legit CDs I own, so my motives are pure.  I own all of the Need For Speed series and I enjoy aspects of each of them, is there a way to laod them to my 200gig'r and play them without CD swapping?  This also prevents wear&tear on children's CD (they take a beating!)
Freeware or similar is preferred.

P.S.

I just downloaded the DaemonScript 1.5.4 from the 3rd party addons section of the daemon tools download area.  It makes MUCH easier to mount images and create shortcuts to the start menu or the desktop then what I was doing with the clunky command line DOS batch files in windows.  I've only used it for a few minutes but I can already tell it's going to be worlds easier than what I had been doing.

Daemon-Tools contains the Save Now! and WhenU spyware.   :(

Just read that you can uncheck the boxes for these pieces of spyware during installation, but haven't tried it myself.

you can get rid of them pretty easily.  Or just find an older version on the net somewhere... not much has changed

I'm still running 3.47 and haven't noticed any extra unwanted program running.

I haven't tried 4.0 yet.  I saw that it installs other programs "to help support the continued development of daemon tools"...that didn't sound like something I needed on my PC when the older version still works well.

yup.. same here.  I'm running an older version and can't think of anything I would need to upgrade for.  It's a great little program to have though, especially if you don't happen to have Alcohol installed.

I second (or third) daemon tools. I've never come across any of the spyware mentioned above though. It also has some handy features on top of optical drive emulation...

is there a way to have more than the 4 drives?  I can't seem to find that anywhere?  is it a second program or re-write I can add?
