CPO crapped out on me. New help needed!
« on: December 30, 2005, 11:02:00 pm »
Well it happened. A while back I asked for some suggestions on printing a CPO. Well  I did not take everyones suggestions at getting Mame marquees to print it because I wanted to have somebody local to me to do it. I went to Kinko's and had them print it and laminate it. It worked good for a while but now I have problems. The back part or the laminate has started to peel up and it leaves huge bubbles in my control panel. This is probably because I had to bend the overlay so much.

So here is my new question. How do the mamemarquees cpo's handle bending? This is going on a custom built pacman shaped control panel. Will it work ok if there is no material to wrap around the top or bottom(trying to keep the size to the lowest price possible)? What would be the best way to install it? Thanks in advance for any replies.

mamemarquees laminate doesnt really come off or anything and the material is almost like a really thin sheet of plexi glass and you can bend it. I suggest you redo your panel and this time go with mamemarquees I am sure it will work just fine ! :)

The CPOs are fine with bending, because it's a lot like the vinyl people here use from Happs. I was going to go without plexi on the surface, but I was having a lot of problems keeping it from getting small bubbles here and there, so I just opted for plexi and it's been perfect since. If you were to use a spray glue underneath it would help keep it from bubbling, but the edges of the art should be protected with something (or tucked underneath the panel) or else they'll eventually fray.

The product Mamemarquee puts out though is awesome quality! I would definitely pay what it takes for their service so you can enjoy the results and save the aggravation.

Basically, stop being a cheap ass and have mamemarquees do it. The last place you want to cut corners is on the part of the machine that you look at and touch every time you use it!

I have a mamemarquees cpo on my Q*bert which curves around on the bottom. Just add some 3M spray adhesive before the install and clamp some soft wood on the overlay and let it set overnight. You should be good to go.

If I have my cpo design the exact size of the control panel will it fray if the exposed edges are not constantly leaned on or touched? (Think galaga control panel) Will an exact size hold itself down and not come up at the edges? If I increase the size any it will go to the next price level of the create your own cpo from mamemarquees so I am trying to stay at this price.

How about a picture so we can see what you're dealing with.

SG

My CPOs are fairly rigid, if the corner is really sharp you may run into issues even with my stuff.  If it is gradual like kool's Qbert it will work fine.  I would like to see the control panel also, if it is sharp you could possibly cut the CPO at the edge, especially if it is an inside curve.

If you do decide to order, and you end up bumping over to the next size, if it is less then inch or so over, don't worry about it, just order the smaller size.

In time it'll probably fray without some sort of protection on the edges. It has nothing to do with the quality of the material or the adhesive -- it happens with everything. Send a picture of what you're dealing with for the cp and maybe we can come up with a solution for you.

Here is the cp with the print from kinkos on it the day after I installed it. It has a smoothed down front bend. Hey scott I have heard some good things about you. Thank you for replying to my post. Would I need to wrap the cpo around the right, left, top and bottom edges? Is there any other way to protect them with the way they are now?  If I were to wrap them around it would be a sharp corner for the edges. I am probably going to take off the insert coin buttons and move them somewhere else when I do get it printed.
