AdvanceCD, MAME, MESS, MENU ....
« on: December 30, 2005, 10:30:10 am »
I have a cab running winxp, mamewah and mame but I have just started looking at the AdvanceXXXX stuff. Unfortunitly, I can't find any kind of documentation on this stuff and the forum at sourceforge is, shall we say, not good. I have worked with several version of linux (slackware, fedora, vxworks, debian) so I can get around but I can't find any kind of support for this stuff. Does anyone know of site or anything to get started with this stuff???

I have a Advmame/Advmenu linux how to page:
http://web.tampabay.rr.com/whammoed/whammocade/software.htm
desmatic has a section too:
http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/linux.htm

If you already have linux experience, you are one step ahead of me when I started on this route.

It comes with lots of documentation. The problem is the documentation is poorly organized. You need to read through it carefully a few times. It covers much of what you need to know if you hunt through it.
NO MORE!!

Yep, if you're simply looking for documentation for the programs themselves it is here:
http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/doc.html

WOW, this is like putting a puzzle together that's frustrating you. You know it's going to look cool when it's done but it just doesn't make since in pieces...

Thanks for the direction guys, I'm doing more research...

Whammoed, I see your link is tampabay.rr.com I'm in the tampabay area as well Clearwater actually. You're the first local I've run into on here....

OK, I downloaded the advancedcd/usb 2.6.2 and ran the program on a laptop to create my usb drive and without doing anything else just rebooting it works. SO, I ran home and tried on the home PC. I re-ran the makeusb.bat so it got my hardware and then I reboot; again making no additional changes, and it locks at the Advance Mame "Loading..." screen. Can't ctrl-alt-del or anything I have to power off.
Since this is a USB drive and not CD is there any logging I can enable or anything? Any ideas? I'm still swimming through docs but haven't found anything yet, so any help would be appreciated...
