Problem with arcadeVGA & Betson/Imperial 27"
« on: December 28, 2005, 07:16:40 pm »
I bought a Betson Imperial multisync monitor and an arcadeVGA
card for the mame cabinet I'm building, but I'm having problems
getting it set up.  The computer is a Windows 2000 machine

I followed the instructions from the ultimarc web site and removed the old video
card's drivers, then plugged in the arcadeVGA and tried to boot in safe mode
hooked to the Betson.  During the initial boot process, it comes up fine, showing
all the startup stuff - but when it goes to windows, it gets out of sync.  It looks
like four little blurry copies of the windows display in a band across the top, with
just static below:

XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX
XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX
XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX
XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX    XXXXXX

              (static down here)

I'm sure once I get the arcadeVGA drivers installed, it'll sync up fine and do all
the marvelous stuff it's supposed to do, but I can't install the drivers until I get the
thing to boot up in safe mode first.

Got any suggestions?

I sent email to the guy who runs ultimarc, but of course, he's on vacation until the
3rd and I'm hoping to get my MAME cabinet configured for a New Years party.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
John

Okay, Mark Rash from these boards emailed me the solution to this, but I
thought I'd post it here in case anyone searches the boards later with the
same issue.

When you're booting up after installing the arcadeVGA card, instead of
going to "safe mode" as the instructions on the ultimarc site says, go
to "VGA mode".  Once I did that, it came up fine.
