Santoro, I thought rainbows weren't anissue with rear projection DLP tvs, since the projection is within the television "box". Can you see rainbows with a Samsung? Chad, i have a 32" Toshiba that I paid 800 bucks for about 9 years ago, and sadly it is going out. My next TV will be a Samsung HLR5067W that cost around 1600 bucks. I love my 32" but 1600 is cheap for a HDTV tv that is only 12" deep. And I still have my 3 year old Sony HS10 projector in my basement theater for movies, but like another poster mentioned you really need light control for the best visual.

Even if you have the $2000, you could have a 32" TV and $1200 to spend on something else.

Yes, I can definitely see them on the rear projection DLP.

BUT, these rainbows are more common with the front projectors right??????? My buddy has a DLP Samsung and i couldn't see anything, so I'm hoping that I won't with the TV I will buy in the future. Rainbows was the main reason I went with LCD instead of DLP with my projector.

I just looked up that TV, nice! I rember when 1080i was the best resolution and now they have 1080p, I really wonder if you could tell the diffrence in pic quality between the two. I know "i" means enterlaced and all, but when does the resolution become greater than the eye can detect? The Samsung I want to buy is a 50" and only does 1080i but only cost 1600 bucks. I would rather have this TV now and have 2400 bucks for an upgraded TV in the next 4 to 5 years. Just my opinoin. ;D

what im scared about is video game lag though, as a lot of people report having it in console games on samsung dlp tvs and a lot say they cant tell.... so im gonna bring my ps2 to the tweeter before i buy. It would be a shame if there really was such a problem as this tv has the most beautiful picture that i have ever seen and the other tv mitsubishi that comes closest isn't anywhere ass sharp as the samsung

The Sammy video/audio lag is really bad. Good idea to take your game machine into the store and try before you buy. I would be very surprised if you did not report back here that the lag was noticeable and unacceptable. Then again, maybe Sam has fixed the problem, but so far no fix is reported on the net boards on the subject. Anyway good luck! If you like the TV, then it doesn't matter what we say. Buy it and enjoy!

Eric.

I'm with Chad. TV is TV.  I used to have an old used set. If it can display a picture and in color, then it was good enough for me.  Until I got a PS2. Then I at least needed a crisp decent pic, so I forked over $400 for a 27".

I don't really see a need for much larger unless you have a large room, but even then, there's no law that says a TV and couch need to be placed on opposite sides of a room.

One way to look at it is that the bigger the TV, the more you will see the jagged pixels when playing games!

Jaggies are not worth $2000.

The best games were designed with jaggies and will have them at any size.

again... they aren't worth them TO YOU. (or me honestly)

and "best" is relative.  Newer HD games on a good HD screen will not have jaggies... no matter if its a 27" HDTV or a 61"

Yeah, they said the same thing about HDTV in Australia.
Fools were buying $10000 HD TV sets and it took 2-3 years for content to arrive and even now, it's just 4 chanels of commercial TV. Really worht it.

I'd wait until it actually arrives and then wait a year until the technology becomes more common and reliable.

And merry christmas  :)

lcd projection is the route i took.....great tv. i was looking into the dlp's but i was a rainbow seer...some people see the rainbows some don't. you see them if you make quich eye movements away from the screen...like if someone walks by while you're watching tv..

lcd proj has the contrast ration drawback...which by the way if you don't look at the lcd side by side with a plasma you'll never know the difference. and it also has the "screen door" effect due the the individual pixels that can be seen sometimes in certain situations...i really only see that when i'm fairly close to the tv.

anyway good luck...its stressful buying a projection/plasma tv.

Newer HD games are not and could never be on a list of best games.

They will be for kids who are 15 now.

Again, its all relative.  I understand how you feel about people saying they "need" these things... but I don't see how you can argue opinions.

You don't play new games, you don't want a 60" TV, and you don't want a $3k stereo system.  That doesn't mean its not the "best" use of entertainment dollars for every person in the world.

Exactly. I bought a 65" TV a couple years ago in leiu of taking a vacation. Can't tell you the enjoyment I get out of watching movies on that with the surround reciever. If you're not into it, thats fine, but don't feel the need to justify the purchase to someone who isn't interested. I kind of get that "have not" vibe from the whole thing. Why come to the thread if you feel its a waste of time?

get with it anti- technology chumps!    ;D

As opposed to the 120 channels I get on SD Digital cable TV anyway.

When Cable networks go HD, then there may be a reason to go HD or 1080p to be specific.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

I bet your wife resents you for that. (Whether she says it or not, she does).

That's just absurd.. how do you know his wife doesn't want to watch the movies too?

My girlfriend encouraged me to fix up my stereo system in my room so that she could enjoy movies more...  not every wife/girlfriend is against big tvs or stereo systems just like not all guys WANT one in the first place

This thread is getting crazier and crazier...
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

1080p broadcasting actually exists at this time. However, several 1080p resolutions have been standarized for future broadcasting use.
Okay just read this on the old internet, I would save some dough and get the 1080i resolution TV now and with the money you save you can get a 1080p in a couple of years. I still would like to see how much of a diffrence can be seen between the 2 formats. I was reading on the web about the contrast ratios displayed on diffrent televisions and how the human eye can not detect the diffrence, but better numbers sell TVs. What doed the future hold? Will we think we can see a diffrence? Well maybe they will be implanting bionic eyes into us in the next 5 years. ::)

I'm sure she has, but if you gave her the choice I bet she'd want the cruise instead of the big-ass tv.

You're wrong. It was as much my wifes decision as mine. She is actually more of a movie buff than I. One of our future upgrades is going to be a 120" screen in the back room with a front projector.
