MK II - newest purchase. $380 s/h?!?!
« on: December 17, 2005, 08:19:09 pm »
Hey guys, im sure you all know about my previous two games- Wrestlefest and NBA Showtime.  Well, I just made another purchase today- Mortal Kombat II!!!!

The guy wants to charge me 380 to ship it to my door though (from georgia to southern louisiana).  I think this is too much.  I have the option to use my own shipping company.  Any ideas/advise?

use forward air if you can it should run from $200 to 250 problem is that you have to pick it up to the terminal.

NAVL is the one i use door to door shipping usually around $280.

I guess that includes palleting?

It cost some money to palletize those things.

no i dont want to pick it up at the terminal.  I actually had Wrestlefest delivered from Utah to southern Louisiana for 340 and that included insurance.  These prices seem steep!

You should research this on the RGVAC.

Go to http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.video.arcade.collecting?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8

Then seach for "shipping games".  There's a lot of options. But if you want door to door service, you should expect to pay more for it.

What shipping line delivered that game for you from Utah?  Call them up and ask them if they can ship this one too.  Was it North American Van Lines?

door to door shipping is always more, 90% of the time i use NAVL and i never had a problem and palleting is free.

also depend on the seller, some of them have special rebate or deal with this company, i got few months ago an asto city , the guy use NAVL palleting was free the cab was located in california and i live in miami  :P
with NAVAL it's COD and i end up paying $285 and it was door to door shipping.

Congrats on that purchase!  :) MKII is one of my all time favorite games. I spent many hours at a local party store that had one in the back. Is yours dedicated?

"Dedicated" means it was built as an MKII, it wasn't converted. It has MKII art and the original control panel in it.

A PacMan or Joust machine is an example of "dedicated".  Arkanoid is an example of a converted machine.

Generally collectors spend lots more cash on a "dedicated" machine vs one that has a kit or has been converted to the game.

Cool! I paid 500 (used BIN out of fear someone would bid it higher than that) for mine. It was converted to run Ultimate MK3, but the MK2 artwork was not messed with it all. I already had a working MK2 board set with marquee and manual so I sold the UMK3 guts.

David Countryman has a good reputation in my book.

Over the years I've bought quite a few games from the man, and never once
did he try to overcharge for anything.

(In fact when I picked up, he would throw stuff in)

He's not a large op and was doing games from his house.
So he's not trying to yank you around with the shipping.

Don't forget trucking companies are now charging a fuel surcharge that wasn't there
6 months ago.

(I know gas has gone down, but they won't lower the surcharge for another 4 to 6 months.)

Later,
dabone

he seems like a good guy, but he admitted to increasing his shipping charges as of lately.  American Vanlines gave me a quote for $315 today.  Im also going to check fedex freight and SAIA.
