ArcadeOS Missing ROMs
« on: February 02, 2003, 06:28:06 pm »
Does anyone know what would cause missing ROMs in ArcadeOS v2.50? I'm not sure how many I'm missing, but 1942 is definitely not listed. It's available and playable from the command line, so I know the ROM exists and is working. I tried deleting the *.LST in the ArcadeOS directory, but the regenerated list still didn't have 1942 listed. FWIW I have 3420 ROMs listed and I'm using the 0.62 ROM set.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have arcadeos 2.5 and all 3 versions of 1942 show up in the menu and play ok.   I am using mamepp .63

Have you tried deleting the cfg files for 1942?

I just gave that a shot and it didn't help.

Thanks for the tip.

Try pressing the spacebar (button 3 if you have a cabinet that has a keyboard encoder).  This will take you to the rotated menus.  My guess is that the left ctrl (button 1) was accidentily hit, causing the game to be listed as rotated (the -h, -r, etc on the right of the game column).

It then is no longer listed in your horizontal list.

This happens all of the time when my nephews come over to play and hit random buttons while in ArcadeOS.

<Wish mode>

If I could have one enhancement in arcadeOS is would be a "lock mode" that you can put on for parties, kids, etc.  During this time, no config'ing could be done, no roms moved, etc.  Just launching of games.

</Wish mode>

You would be amazed at home much a kids can change by hitting random buttons.  This is why I keep a backup of my arcadeOS config files and just rewrite them if this happens

It's been a while since I used ArcadeOS, but I am SURE there is a lock mode - I can't remember how to do it tho :(.

Try having a really good look through the menus and docs...my apologies if I'm wrong but I thought there was a key you could press to lock the menus.

Can anyone else confirm?

That was it!  That's the last time I let anyone use my cab without me watching!   :D

Thanks.

I did a little more research on this and emailed Anthony Sexton (lasvegas on the ArcadeOS board, he wrote the 2.50 update), got this back:

This feature is already there! It's a little hidden though. I guess
that
would help keep the kids out of it. There's actually two ways of
protecting your setup and both should be used.

First, go to the ArcadeOS Config/Main menu and turn off Button 1, 2
and/or 3 that you don't want the little fingers using. Then, after
leaving the menu, press the 'L' key to lock the settings. They will
remain locked untill you enter 'L' again (Not normally available from
the
game controls.).

So there you go, it is in there!
