Pausing game when in options menu
« on: February 01, 2003, 08:59:44 pm »
Anyone knows if there is anyway of pausing game automatically when you press, for example, the TAB key to enter game menu screen, and let the game continue playing when you close it? Thanks.

actually this isn't good.  there is a known bug in mame that sometimes when you setup keys and the game is paused it doesn't read the keys correctly.

btw, it's mame, just reset the game and start over.  Don't whine, it didn;t cost you a quarter:)

One hack way is to map the TAB key to pause the game along with the "P" key (hint: "Input (General)").  Map both keys so if you ESC out of the menu, you still can unpause the game without bringing up the menu again.

However, I agree with SirPoonga and don't think this is a good idea.  If you remap some keys (ctrl, alt, space, numbers, arrows), you won't get the true key mapped ("left ctrl right ctrl" instead of just "left ctrl").
