It is inconscionable that the elderly have to take such desperate measures to avoid losing their homes because of taxes.  The entire concept makes me nauseous, particularly this case where the woman faces losing her home because of taxes triggered BY HER HUSBAND'S DEATH.

Let the elderly die in peace without fear of the gov't storming and seizing their property.

Why the hell is she inheriting anything.  Doesn't marraige make y'all in the U.K. co-owners of your property?

Why would she lose her home over a measly 3000 pounds? Most of us have credit cards with debts higher than that. Sh~t, sell the CAR not the house.

(I don't get it--Did they live in a trailer park?)
NO MORE!!

If you don't have the 3000 pounds to pay IMMEDIATELY they will seize the entire property and auction it to raise the funds.  The balance of equity is not even relevant to the gov't.

If you do not vacate the home when ordered they show up with law enforcement officers.  If you do not then vacate, the officers will pull their weapons and remove you by force.

The gov't will show up with armed men in order to remove 90 year old woman from her home so that they can sell it and keep the proceeds, all because her husband has died.

That is how gov't works.

the time limit here in the uk seems to be 3 weeks, at least where the house is a council / housing association house.... just gone through it with my mums house after she died last month..... luckily for me she had a lodger so the tenancy on the house passed to the lodger which gives me as long as I want to sort things out.
