Christmas carols
« on: December 07, 2005, 10:20:59 pm »
Well it is officially the festive season. I just heard my first Christmas carol on the radio.

I hate Christmas Carol's, they sound depressing and lack hardcore guitar solo's.

Rarely does the artist ever pass out on stage from hardcore drug abuse and slipping over in their own vomit just before stage diving is almost non-existent.

Personally I couldn't give a flying ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about some drummer boy who quite frankly couldn't thump a decent beat to save his own ass and Santa Clause is just a fat bastard who should spend more of the year exercising and less time practicing the unhealthy eating habits that are responsible for the excessive folds of fat that the lard-ass insists on parading around without shame during this time of year. Damn Santa, you got moobs. You really reckon Mrs Clause is gunna get filthy in the back of that stupid red sled while you are sporting bigger hooters than her?

Don't even get me started on tinsel and plastic trees.

Bah humbug....

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the ancient Yule tide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the blazing Yule before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Follow me in merry measure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
While I tell of Yule tide treasure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Not after you've heard it 68 times that day because it is the only Christmas song those "we don't suck" rock stations play.

It is good stuff, Jabba's right.  I listen to that a lot in December.  And every December I dust off my piano skills to relearn much of it.

No, they are songs about Christmas.  Nowhere in I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas do the lyrics say "and an offwhite Kwanzaa".

Personally I couldn't give a flying ---Cleveland steamer--- about some drummer boy who quite frankly couldn't thump a decent beat to save his own ass...

And that's why he hated people himself and was only friends with the lamb, the camel and the donkey... until he saw the light of baby Jesus.

The Little Drummer Boy is a great story.  <- This coming from me  ::).

Charlie Brown Christmas is great too.

Except that now they bundle Charlie Brown Christmas with these new, short skits with terrible voice acting and a cha-ching Charles Schulz is finally dead so we can rape his properties message.

my favorite song.  Ukranian Carol is my favorite christmas carol.
If you get a chance to see them in concert do so.  It's an amazong show.  Pyro, lasers...

The blue man group should do a christmas album.

As cheesy as the artists can come across, Sarah MacLachlan and the Barenaked Ladies do some kickass carols.  My wife listens to a Gaelic version of Silent Night from her that would make a pit bull cry.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for *good* Christmas music.  My wife is hosting a Christmas party for the people that work for her, and I've put myself in charge of music.

I am most interested in modern original Christmas music rather than just new arrangements of the same old standards.  I'm also mostly interested in more "rock" oriented songs.  I like some of the suggestions above

FWIW, my favorite Christmas songs currently are

Blues Traveler - Christmas
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - This Time of Year
Smashing Pumpkins - Christmastime

Anyway, keep your suggestions coming.
