Just curious, I was poking around for local pins and saw this.

You know ebay. A rule is only enforced if someone is actually yelling at them about it.

It seems like that is always the case from reading these forums(not only ebay), eiether they are getting rid of stuff or they are in the process of asking to be able to have a cab.

I agree though, get a pair and have what you enjoy dammit.

It always boggles my mind that people will spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars building a MAME machine and then NOT use a cordless mouse and keyboard.

** Spreading my legs so I can get kicked in the nuts about this topic (again)  ::). **

Has anyone bothered to help the MAMEdevs and bring it to their attention?  Or are we waiting for them to quit sleeping and their daytime jobs so they can add all the latest titles and fix the bugs, and fix the control listings and police ebay and craigslist and do everything else "we" want them to...

The ban isn't gone.  The MAMEdevs asked for the communities help for stuff like this.  (that means us).

Ain't my job to protect their property.  I was just observing that the policing of Ebay appears to have stopped.

Right, that's why they asked.  They're not telling anyone.  But it isn't their job to release anything to the public either.  I just don't understand why people get up in arms (like last time this issue was discussed) about bringing auctions to their attention.

Bah! I say as long as you are not a business, then sell it on e-bay. Just remove the Mame program, and tell people where to get it on their own. The guy deserves to sell the cab - he built it and put the time in to configure, etc. Just try to keep it legal, that's what I say.

I agree. I mean, I guess I should not sell my wife's Explorer because it uses proprietary Ford software. Yeah, not even close to the same thing, but I'm a smartypants.

I'm not up in arms.  I just don't understand why people are resistant to helping the MAMEdevs.

We are resistant to helping the MAMEdevs because we are not up in arms about their issue.

Were we up in arms we would feel compelled to help the MAMEdevs.

I am also not up in arms about the leaves in my backyard, thus I am not helping them relocate.

Who is this "we"?

So, if you saw your neighbor's house getting robbed you wouldn't do anything as it has nothing to do with you?  It's not your issue they are getting robbed, it's theirs, right?  So you would observe the policing in your area has stopped and do nothing about it?

Don't be an Explorer hater. :)

I bought it new in '98, still going fine with 110,000 miles.

I'm sure this has something to do with MAME on eBay.

Ford Explorers are funny....

They put crappy transmissions in them then decide to give everybody who still has the original tires a free tire replacement to make up for it.

Uh oh - here we go again. Stealing isn't a good analogy: the Mame devs have lost nothing.
<insert any crime analogy>  It doesn't matter if it is stealing or not.  I could have used, "So if you saw someone committing arson on your neighbor's house..."

Also it doesn't have to be your neighbor.  I get your sarcasm Chad...

I could have said "If you saw someone being mugged".  Heck, nothing has to be lost either or it doesn't have to be a crime.  You could just be a helpful person.  I could have said "If you saw someone next to a car on the side of the road in freezing weather with hazzards on ..." would you at least stop to see if help was needed?

The devs have asked for help with it and have a form you can fill out on mamedev.com.  If you didn't want someone making money off of something you created but didn't have the money to enforce the trademark would you ask others that like your product to help out?  Don't answer with the sarcasm that you'd charge money for it.  That's not what I am asking.  I am asking if you were in situation the mamedevs are in would you ask for help?

the mamedevs aren't even asking that you actively go search for auctions.  They are happy if you just report the ones you happen to come across in your normal ebay activities.  Just like I am not going to go out and actively seatch for crime to try and stop it, that is the police's job.  But if I do see something amiss I am going to report it.  I had to do that in summer.  I saw a manhole cover missing in the road and reported it.

Now yes, as an individual it's your choice to help or not.  But the term "we" was used as in to indicate someone is representing the whole forum.  I was just countering that isn't how the whole forum thinks.

Another good example that has to deal with this board.  You don't have to use the "report to moderator" link (and many of you don't but still think a thread should be nixed and reply in length about it without clicking the link, tsk tsk) but some of you do to help us out.

So, to add insight to Crazy Cooter's statement "I just don't understand why people are resistant to helping the MAMEdevs", it's because there are people who aren't helpful and don't see the need to help anyone but themselves.  Luckily not everyone thinks that way, otherwise there would be no volunteer fire departments :)

I like the tangent this thread has gone off on.  I'd almost swear the regulars of this forum had ADD.

Edit: After re-reading what I said it does sound like I am "going after" ChadTower.  This is not the case.  I tried to present the issue from both sides on why or why not one would help the mamedevs in reporting auctions.  It seems a little on the why you would side but that is because I think the why not has been covered in other peoples opinions.

It's not that bad.  It's kinda like if Ford designed a mini-hummer.  At least it isn't an Aztek.

The mirrors don't quite fit the rest of the style.

I love this place. Everyone gets into an argument about one thing then suddenly curves into a conversation about cars. Only here man. I say sell the cab but without the software. It should not be "selling point" It is a nice cab, just with bad motivation. I also agree that it is fun to play by yer self. And who is this person that he cant get more friends. Perhaps we should all get on e-may and jack the price up to like $15,000, then stiff em. I would love to do it. I need to get a trash eBay account.

In this particular instance, I don't have a problem with the mame name being used.  If I sell my cabinet, I want to have a reference that anyone looking for this sort of thing will know.  What's wrong with mentioning mame if nothing comes installed and is being sold by a private owner?  What would one look for on ebay if searching for this type of machine.  Seeing mame in the title of an auction while I was looking for a golden tee machine is what led me to here.  You could put any title on the auction and say it can play over 4000 games, but with out name branding, how would one search for such a thing?  Anyways, I don't agree with mass marketing and mame being tide together, but for a personal owner trying to sell his cabinet, as long as nothing came installed, I would have no problem with it and certainly would not get irate about it.

but how do you really feel about explorers and broncos?

I drive a dodge intrepid. Intrepids also have a history of bad Transmissions but mine has been great. Explorers and Broncos? Hmmmmm. Never driven either of em so I somehow have to live vicariously through those who do... naw, actually I never lost sleep about never driving one. The Ford Hummer Ripoff looks like fun. I used to be a huge hummer fan untill they brought out the H2 and now H3. The reason to love the the orriginal hummer was, it was this mean grizzly hunk of metal that would climb a tree if you wanted it to. Now it looks like a 4 runner. It is moms tank to take the kids 3 miles to school. Don't get it.

As to the cabinet. I agree Sell it as a MAME cabinet but do not sell MAME or the ROMs as part of the package. It is folks like this that put up all the flags that send the snoops out to seek and destroy all sign of ROM distributers. Of course we ALL own ALL of these games and have the right to the roms as we all have huge warehouses full of arcade machines. But for the guy who doesn't and just is looking for a ROM here and there it sucks when someone goes out onto a public forum, highly visable, and says YOU can play ALL these great games on this machine... FOR FREE... If you buy it from me.
