Operation Thunderbolt - Positional gun MAME cabinet
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:45:42 pm »
I thought I'd finally share my latest project with all of you.  I'm working on an Operation Thunderbolt MAME conversion for a friend of mine.  I don't have much left to do on it, but it has been a very fun project.  I used an Ultimarc A-PAC to control the guns, which has worked great so far.  Anyway, here's the link to my project page.  There's pictures in most of the entries.

very cool project man.  mind giving a layout on how you wired the guns to the I-Pac?  Could you just wire them to any key?  btw, more pictures! :)  and maybe some terminator running.

Actually, it's an A-PAC rather than an I-PAC.  The A-PAC is Ultimarc's analog encoder board for use with analog devices like 270-degree steering wheels, analog joysticks, etc.  It works great with the guns.

The only parts of the guns that don't work are the force feedback motors, so the guns don't vibrate when you fire them.  To partially make up for that I put the subwoofer right under the control panel.

I'll take note of the wiring for the guns as soon as I get out there to work on it a little more.

I wired up the coin door lights and the power button.  I also took more pictures.  Here's one.  You can see the rest on my project page.

It's been a while, but here's another update.  The cabinet is pretty much finished.  All I need to do is put one piece of t-molding on it, and it's ready to go.  The positional guns work great with 90% of the gun games I tried, including light-gun games, with very little calibration needed.

You can see lots of pictures on my project page.

There's a hack to make the force feedback on the guns work on 1Up's site.
I saw that hack, but there's a few problems with it.  It only works for Terminator 2 and it requires building a custom circuit.  Also, the motors in these guns appear to be dead...
