tv 'card' for lap top
« on: December 02, 2005, 05:28:37 am »
ok, im wondering if there is some kind of device (maybe usb?) to convert the monitor signal to tv for laptops. i know on newer laptops they have a built in s video or what ever it is. but what do you call the add-on version? i have one and i havent tested it out. i suspest its not going to work, and if it doesnt what am i looking for on ebay? this is for my next top secret project so i hope to hear from someone (except for bones, who will just acuse me of being a newbie  ;) )

well, no one seems to have any ideas. but this is what i have:

http://www.techbuy.com.au/products/25342/VIDEOEDITING/Lifeview/LR77/Viewmaster_Encoder4_VGA_to_TV_Converter.asp

now i look at its specs (dunno why i never googled it before) it sounds like it will be perfect. so long as this bit is what i need:

VGA analog RGB signal to NTSC⁄ PAL signal converter

i might test it out on the weekend. has a weird power adapter that fits into the ps2 port for the keyboard, thats my only worry. since it is a piece of electronics only, it doesnt matter what system i am running either which is good (",) because im not sure if i will be using DOS or win98...

Or you could lend it to me. No one wants to come to Melbourne anyway so it would be safe here.  :)
Now in a tasty new flavour.

I think you may need an external VGA to TV converter.

nope. this goofy thing gets its actual power supply from the ps2 port. the one ive been given must be pretty old because it has a ps2 in to din out plug, which might have been the bees knees more than 6 years ago (my first pc was in 1999 and that had a din keyboard although even then it was getting rare).
anyway, the main thing is it works (",)
