Stuffed Hobbes (Calvin & Hobbes)
« on: December 01, 2005, 05:22:20 pm »
Besides the arcade, growing up in the 80s also meant a love for Calvin & Hobbes.  As luck would have it, our 3 year old son is the spitting image of Calvin.  Funny, because I look like a cross between Ralph Macchio and the guy who played Imhotep in The Mummy.  The mailman though...

Anyway, I know that Watterson never licensed Calvin & Hobbes for toys or anything else.  I'd still like to get him a stuffed Hobbes for Christmas.  Seeing as how this board is full of fellow 80s-90s type dudes, anyone have any luck finding a Hobbes lookalike?  Anyone hear of such a beast?  I'd take either incarnation of Hobbes - Calvin's view or the "real-world" stuffed view.

Oh, there were tons and tons of knockoffs...

...but you're better off getting him a bunch of stuffed toys and letting him choose his own Hobbes.

Brilliant point.  Giving him a Hobbes is probably more for me than him.  Since he's the only boy - he's got older twin sisters - he is not hurting for toys.

Just noticed this is only post 12.  Seems like I've been reading this board regularly forever.  I must be what the kids call a "lurker".

When I was a kid my Hobbes was George the gorilla. My mom got him for me when I was around 5 I think. I still have him, he's one of the few surviving relics from my childhood. He lives in my gameroom and guards my cabs for me now.

I had a bear named Brownie.  I still have him, he sits on a small easy chair on a bookshelf in my bedroom.

Back on topic, I was surprised to see this at the book store last week:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0740748475/qid=1133558437/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-5693158-1651866?n=507846&s=books&v=glance

(To the click-impaired, it's a huge COMPLETE collection of every C&H ever, in 3 huge and heavy hard-cover volumes).

I always thought Hobbes was supposed to be a Tigger the Tiger doll with Calvins big healthy dose of imagination.

This is pretty close to a Hobbes imho.
